Call me a miserable git, but are these squads really worth paying attention to any more?

Eddie names a bunch of players. Most of them disappear by the actual tournament squad. Even more of those players disappear by the match day squad, which will look just like his first one more or less save more Nathan Hughes, a different TH sub, and a change in the back 3. Every now and again there's a hint of a bigger change but usually the player gets injured soon after anyway.

Its all about as meaningful as Mells' puns.

I would say the angst involved is not so much about the ins, or even the surprising outs - when players like Joseph and Lozowski are left out, then you know it's Eddie playing silly buggers. The big issues is that, if the players previously ignored don't make this squad, then there's no hope of them getting a single minute in the 6N. So no Curry, no Robson, no Spencer, no Armand, etc.

Following injuries sustained at the weekend, Charlie Ewels (hamstring), Piers Francis (concussion), Jonathan Joseph (dead leg), Jack Nowell (ankle) and Harry Williams (concussion) will not join up with England for their training camp today (Monday).

Henry Thomas (Bath Rugby) and Joe Cokanasiga (London Irish) have been called up into the squad for the two-day camp in Brighton.

I like the two call-ups. Cokanasiga looks to be the business and far more promising than Solomona or Earle. Thomas is proven quality and if he can stay fit might prove a better option to replace Cole than Williams (assuming Sinckler continues to prove a liability).

Always rated Thomas. Thought he was going to be an England regular a few years back but injuries intervened and he never quite got that consistency in the scrums. Would be a great asset if he can finally stay injury free.

Agreed. Thomas is a good player. Let’s hope he can stay injury free.

You lot have pissed on my chips, I was gonna like the Thomas call up. His scrummaging has come on loads in the last year or two when he hasn't actually been injured. He's always been a cracking player in the loose. Then again, it's an EJ training squad so Christ knows what the call up actually means.
