That was a penalty too. Pisi picked it up when it rolled back to him on the floor

I honestly think this Russian 9 is playing better than Laidlaw

Re: RWC Opposition Watch
While I don't think you stand any chance of losing to them, I think you might need to take Russia a bit more seriously than you might have expected before the tournament, which could have an impact on your game against Japan 4 days later (schedule rigged to favour the home side, surely not!). They looked a solid outfit, albeit uninspiring in attack.
Before the tournament I put a bet on that they'd concede >300 points. That's now a waste of money.

Meh, with a bit of organisation I think we'll be comfortable enough. They have done surprisingly well though.Puja wrote:While I don't think you stand any chance of losing to them, I think you might need to take Russia a bit more seriously than you might have expected before the tournament, which could have an impact on your game against Japan 4 days later (schedule rigged to favour the home side, surely not!). Not clear who we would be resting though as it's no longer clear who should be first choice

Re: RWC Opposition Watch
What do we do about Samoa. We’re perfectly capable of losing to them, but will Russell/Hogg etc survive it?
Re: RWC Opposition Watch
The time for getting the cotton-wool swaddling out was the last warm-up game. Now we just put our best team out. Only if we have a huge lead (unlikely, from the last showing) can we think of taking Finn/Hogg off to be fresher for the Japan game.

If he starts against Samoa, with his concussion history, I'm predicting we lose Chib for the tournament.

The Aussie guy who took out the Fijian has just been banned for 3 weeks, which probably means the 2 Samoans are out for our fixture.

It's utterly adorable that you think the IRB are going to be consistent.General Zod wrote:The Aussie guy who took out the Fijian has just been banned for 3 weeks, which probably means the 2 Samoans are out for our fixture.

The two Samoans have been cited. Can't imagine they will be playing against us (though it would effectively be an admission that Russia were robbed)

Early days but what a difference in the way Japan have started against Ireland compared with Scotland. Playing at pace but crucially with accuracy.
They don’t seem to have a problem winning the collisions either and generating quick ruck ball...

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Actually japan looking more like scotland now, missed tackles and knock ons undoing all the good work. The final group game could be entertaining for all the wrong reasons.

If japan can keep some momentum going theres every chance they can take this one

I think they have been decent in attack, (not as clinical as Ireland though).
Incidentally I think that penalty against the Japanese players for getting up and picking the ball up was wrong. Yes, players had rucked over him but he was now on his feet so entitled to pick the ball up at the back of the ruck - no one's back foot was over it.

Yeah I agree I thought it was harsh. They're doing well tho, causing Ireland plenty of problemsCameo wrote:I think they have been decent in attack, (not as clinical as Ireland though).

Good sign for Japan though that Ireland are getting penalised
