I wasn't so much thinking of them bringing their own (although I suspect Ealing and Richmond will get a decent boost out of the rump of Wasps supporters in the capital), as I was of people being more likely to come out for the rare occasion of a big name visiting your club. Even a fallen giant's still a giant and a bigger box-office draw than a visit from Ampthill.

As part of proposals accepted by the sport’s governing body, a groundshare agreement has been reached with a Midlands venue – which will be announced in the near future – to host its home games.

Maybe, for the first year. Sort of. The big names have gone from the club so where does that leave the club and its name, especially when Champ supporters are, arguably, a bit more plugged-in to what's happening to the game locally than say a fair weather Prem supporter or a Feb-March Twickenham corporate acolyte

It’s basically a name and some random blokes in black and yellow shirts, and it’s highly unlikely (m)any of those blokes will Prem standard players who have dropped down a season due to loyalty and/or being contractually obliged, as with previously relegated clubs.

I suspect the games between Wasps and Coventry will be well attended if Wasps are still reasonably local. No love lost there.

I was wondering what sort of side they could put out. Almost all of their squad will have moved on, the coaches and back up staff will all have dispersed too, leaving just who exactly?
I cant see them in a better financial position than others in the Championship, so just who will they be able to engage for next season?

He only benefit to them is that currently a lot of good pros are struggling for contracts. They might well be able to cobble together a passable team for next season but realistically it will be based around avoiding relegation more than pushing backing into the Prem.

If it's a completely different squad of players/coaches, with 0 connection to wasps before the crash, I don't think I'll have much interest. If they can get people that did have a connection to wasps in the coaching side, and filling out at least some of the position (ex academy etc), I'd have a much greater interest.

The name and brand will still mean a lot - a club named Wasps, with the historical continuity of the club, will be assumed, when player hunting and talking to agents, to have greater ambition and capacity for growth than a lot of other Championship clubs. Players will be more likely to want to sign up with Wasps who might be aiming on going back to the Premiership, than with Caldy or Nottingham who absolutely won't.

The trick will be in the finances - the new owners will have to demonstrate bullet-proof long-term financial viability before any players will trust them. They won't get any players like Willis or Barbeary back, but I can see them picking up a few of their old squadmen if they can prove they've got trustworthy plans for long term paying of bills.

Yeah they might have to wait another year for Prem 2, you're right. I still wouldn't be surprised if the RFU dropped them back in.

Jersey have been in and out of financial trouble for a decade or so. Will they ever learn…

Can't blame investors for not being keen when the RFU won't give any commitments about funding, future structure of the leagues, intentions on the second tier. If there was a definite plan about a condensed second tier with MSC, an actual budget, and guaranteed promotion and relegation, then this wouldn't be happening today as Jersey would be an asset worth buying. As things stand, it'd just be giving money away without even getting the tax deduction for charitable giving.
