Re: -20s World Cup
10-12 NZ, we've missed 7 points off the tee. Got them with the driving maul off the line out. Great first half so far - need to get place-kicking boots on.
I must say that we look in better shape than I usually expect our junior teams to be. Fairly large and mobile - need to see if we last the duration!

HT - 19-10 NZ.
Just letting in a bit of water towards the end there. Need to sort scrum and keep the pressure on at the line-out.

Re: -20s World Cup
Sscotland a bit under powered, a bit slower to rucks but the scoreline shows that we dont get spanked by 60 anymore, its down to 20, shame we had a couple of chances that we didnae take and they scored with the last phase so i think 17 would have been a fairer reflection
Re: -20s World Cup
Really tough first match, but they did well to stay in it for 50-odd minutes, and can be proud of getting three tries against a really good team. Some big, fit specimens in the pack, the academy seems to be paying off there, and good attack with mauls off lineout ball. Defended well overall, coped with dummy runners and inside balls, but got caught out narrow a couple of times with miss-passes, but the coaches should be able to fix that. Kinghorn was quiet and didn't kick well; once the kicking duties were taken away he had a good run that set up a good try by Henderson, looked more up for it after that, so hopefully he can be more influential in the next matches. NZ just looked much better and faster in attack, great passing and support play. Really good match, and if we carry on with that level of effort and performance I think we look good for the rest of the tournament.

Watched the highlights. Some pretty slack defence at times for tries.
Looked like there were some positives though which is good.

Re: -20s World Cup
Overall, it was an encouraging performance and taking into account other performances at this level over the past 18 months or so, it does look like we're starting to close the gap at this level.
Bradbury looks like he's carrying about a doberman's worth of puppy fat at the moment - hopefully, he'll continue to put the effort in to shift it. His replacement (ginger lad) looks like a bit of a beast and played well, albeit was a little slow from what I saw. Kinghorn had a bit of a mare in the first half and Hastings made a decent point about him kicking end on end instead of spiralling his kicks, but I think he just has to keep practicing.
Thought the number 8 (FagJu) played well, although he did struggle with a retreating scrum that needs to be sorted before we play Italy.
Fly half also showed good glimpses, but there were some panicky decisions in attack from a couple of the backs. Maybe they were getting excited because they were generally playing well.
Anyway, at least we didn't get paggered.

Ireland 10-12 Scotland at half time. Ireland dominating the first quarter, then Scotland scored what could well turn out to be the try of the tournament, running from their own 22. Flashes of Globetrotter stuff after that too, and a lineout maul try at the end of the half. Good game.

Re: -20s World Cup
Scotland attack is very good, willingness to run from anywhere , Ireland got 5 penalties in a row which gavee them a 10 - 0 lead and apart from that they have not really looked great.

think the irish forward who came in the side in the first maul should have been sent for 10 mins sitting on the naughty step, cynical and stupidno sleep wrote:Ireland 10-12 Scotland at half time. Re: -20s World Cup
Ireland , get an interception , good hands but Scotland defence is good and puts them into touch on our 5
@# lose the lineout and Ireland then recycle and then hold on in the ruck, they seem to do 2 things well and then cant back it up, Scotland looking well up for it

Re: -20s World Cup
Ireland play wide and knock on, they look flucked and they still have the AB next
Re: -20s World Cup
yes, think the scots lads could have made more of that, bit of handbags to make point to the ref.whatisthejava wrote:think the irish forward who came in the side in the first maul should have been sent for 10 mins sitting on the naughty step, cynical and stupidno sleep wrote:Ireland 10-12 Scotland at half time. Second interception we've given away this half. Is Shiel on to calm them down?

Almost another great try but last pass is a bit to fast, we get it back run it and then Ireland impede, they look knackered
Sooner or later it feels if Scotland keeps going like this the damn will break

Another lineout lost by Scotland, look like Ireland have guessed it, time to change it as its the only thing keeping Ireland in the game

Re: -20s World Cup
13 - 15 , ireland get a penalty after a lost lineout
Kinghorn bets the ball and makes another amazing break, ball goes through a few phases and we score in the corner
Kinghorn is the best player on the pitch, great running lines, taking 3 - 4 of them to shut him down in space

Re: -20s World Cup
Ireland manage to hold onto the ball long enough to score a good try,
All came from a scrum by Scotland failing to take the restart under no pressure
20 -22
