Seymour starting and Laidlaw's on the bench v Highlanders. I still think Seymour has a chance but maybe I'm being naive

For me he's probably been our best wing so far. Though if he's starting I'll be surprised if he makes the test team. Few who start that game will double up for the Maori who should be the test side. The team has all the hallmarks of the dirt trackers.

Yeah, although wing is probs one position where it is not too much of a problem to double up

So that will be 20 years since a Scot started a Lions Test. Maybe.

yep, Seymore might have a chance in test 3 if North, Williams 1/2P are all injured and Stef Evans, Iuene Evans and Shane Willams dont pass late fitness tests

Brilliant result for the Highlanders. Dan Cole a complete liability at scrum time - most of us knew that after Gordy Reid twisted him like a corkscrew every scrum back in Jan & October.

Too many of these boys are out of their depth.

This is quite funny. Hopefully, Hoggy gets a rest now and isn't rushed back before he's completed a decent pre-season.

Yep, think you have nailed it, far too many people picked on media hyped reputation without actually backing it up

But i also think the coaching isnt up to much, Howley Rowntree and farrell have all failed on the big stage before and clearly are not great selectors

Only positive about Hoggs injury is it's not a Simon Taylor type injury.

I completely agree re coaches. There are some great talents in the UK - Rob Baxter, Eddie Jones, Gregor Townsend, Dai Young, Joe Schmidt, etc.

Gatland and his crew are sub-par coaches and even worse selectors - the fact that he despises Scots makes these results all the more satisfying.

I think there also has to be a question on what legacy is Gatland leaving in coaches for the next tour ,

he picked an attack coach that cant defend
a scrum coach who got dropped from england
a defence coach with question marks over his selections

So listening to the talk sport guys pick there Lionsteam

this is it

1 - Mako
2 - Owens
3 - Tad
4 Maro
5 - AWJ
6 - POM
7 - Warberton (unless he doesnt feel up to it )
8 - falatau

9 murray
10 farrel
11 williams
12 teo
13 ? Because JD is injured
14 North
15 Watson

Which makes me question if pundits actually believe that this is the best currently uninjured players available or are hey just trying to pick the team they think Gatland will so they can show how clever they are.

For me anyone who thinks North is a decent winger has slept through the last 18 months of rugby, the guy just looks completly lost whenever anyone with pace or guile runs at him, he was good when he came on the scene but since his concusions and the fact the game has moved on from larger wingers i think he looks very limited

If you look in the other thread there are some responses. Largely not great ones.

Hard to know if that's a truly bad performance or the kind of performance that North/Watson regularly put in in defence that gets dismissed as an aberration... over and over.

I thought he did ok. But he's playing on the wing for the Lions and that, along with fullback, is becoming a cursed position because it is becoming clear that they are irrelevant in the attacking structure.

Just getting through it now, he had a bit of a ropey start in defence, but covered back very well on both occasions, also dropped a cross field kick in the first half that you'd expect him to get. Made a fucking great call to go early and attack a highlanders cross field kick to run in his try at the beginning of the second. Miss that and it's 7 points the other way.

To be honest, if you want to know how individuals play on the Lions, the only way to do it is watch the game yourself, the melodrama on the lions freds is laughable.

Shame to see Laws get sparked. Hope it's not as bad as it looks, he's been good.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
