Haha, fair point Baz, in need to up my Lions bantz, tots lolz init.
Here, say what you will about him being a bright orange fud-cat, but I really like the way Webb plays scrum half. Thought he was excellent today. He reminds me of how our halfbacks used to play the game.

Thought he was dopey to begin with but came on to a game.

If you look in the other thread there are some responses. Largely not great ones.
Hard to know if that's a truly bad performance or the kind of performance that North/Watson regularly put in in defence that gets dismissed as an aberration... over and over.
I thought he did ok. But he's playing on the wing for the Lions and that, along with fullback, is becoming a cursed position because it is becoming clear that they are irrelevant in the attacking structure.
Just getting through it now, he had a bit of a ropey start in defence, but covered back very well on both occasions, also dropped a cross field kick in the first half that you'd expect him to get. Made a fucking great call to go early and attack a highlanders cross field kick to run in his try at the beginning of the second. Miss that and it's 7 points the other way.
To be honest, if you want to know how individuals play on the Lions, the only way to do it is watch the game yourself, the melodrama on the lions freds is laughable.
Shame to see Laws get sparked. Hope it's not as bad as it looks, he's been good.
On a family holiday so can't watch sadly. Same for saturday.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Ah, you've a point, but he plays a pretty high risk game, he's going to have some shit ones. He certainly keeps the fringe defence honest.

A fair enough, still, just try and take some of the criticism with a pinch of hysterical salt. If you have resonable wifi in your hotel, the games are on YouTube, sling it to the tv from your phone, it's what I'm doing.

Oh that it were that simple. Murray is, of course, superb. CJ is the player of the tour so far, despite being utterly ineffectual yesterday. POM is edging ever closer to greatness and will only be foiled by Gatland's pathetic insistence on picking Sam at 6, 7 & 8 for all 3 tests (With Tipuric and Faletau alternating on the bench for the first 2 tests, and one of them selected at 9 ahead of Murray in the third.)
All of the other Irish lads are decidedly average except Best, Henderson and Payne who are beyond shyte - as this will cause most offence to Eugene and its pointless having a dig at the Leinster players as no Ladyboy supporters ever come on here anymore.
padprop wrote:Who are the scots even arguing should be selected?
Watson would be well behind Warbs and Tipuric and possibly Hardie
Jonny Gray is arguable over Henderson, but others will also argue Launchbury should be ahead
Finn Russell is fair enough over Biggar, but he's never going to get a lions test with Sexton and Farrell
And on the other hand, Laidlaw never should have been selected.
"The scots" aren't arguing any of those. There are some individuals squealing as they're desperate for attention, but that's it.

I think the Celts are discovering how hard it is to create a good form of cohesion when you don't play much together. Gives you a better perspective on why France is so shit now that 3/4 of the players are not from Toulouse

Did you actually watch Watson in the 6 nations? Specifically him being all over Tipuric and Warburton in the Wales game?
Did you watch the England game? Him being utterly ineffectual against a pretty dire english backrow. I won't deny he's a good player but all this hype seems to stem from the Ireland and Wales games whilst turning a blind eye to that.
I was actually going to say that in the first post that he was about the only one who held his own in a team that largely disintegrated that day.
The hype came from tearing it up in the pro 12 and then putting in fantastic performances against the Aussies, who have some fairly handy back rows. I wouldn't think being on top v most of the guys currently occupying the Lions back row shirts is irrelevant either.
You appear to share the Gatland mindset where one bad performance (if you could even call it that) among good ones discounts some players entirely, whereas one good game (Warburton/North etc.) amid a season of mediocrity is enough to dismiss all the rest because they've got a good reputation. Or are Welsh.

So he can't be hyped up after 2 good games (which also completely ignores his Pro 12 form) but he can be dismissed after just one apparently poor game? Sweet logic there bro.
I think we have a fair gripe to moan with the selections but i have to say my rage has moved from Gatland to the bunch of old farts that keep selecting him and absolute crap being spoken by Lions pundits,
For me the entire 70s lions need to feck off and die slowly, im completly sick of hearing how fantastic they were, behind every lions in recent memory has been one of the 70s lions supporting shite coaches picking their favorites, these guys played the game 40+ years ago, like i said my grandfather flew spitfires in the war but at no point did he ever try and tell me how to fly a 747. The old goats have consistently changed their story over the last 18 months on what the purpose of hiring gatland was, how they wanted a fair selection policy and then changing it when it was clear Gatland was going to pick as many crappy welshmen as possible to well its the schedule so what choice does he have as they go to their upteenth free lunch, sipping on their free booze. And whenever anyone critizes anything about the lions right up until the point they get pumped is seen as some sort of unpatriot weasel.
The ex lions players are just as bad, they and the pundits want to prove how clever they are so they attempt to second guess Gatland desperatly trying to pick a even more undynamic team than the last one, Healey was in the telegraph saying Mike brown should be called up, and then as soon as the lions start going pear shaped due to poor management, poor selections, poor coaching they start jumping on the bandwagaon that the lions are not living up to the badge followed up by some utter garbage about how good they were.
The bunch of them can go feck themselves, even with Seymore on the pitch yesterday i was well happy when the lions got pumped, ive had my fill of supporting a shite team that are picked on reputation with less attacking flair than a dead rat, why the hell do i want to support a bunch of english, welsh and irish wankers under a shite coach playing shite rugby with a the old blazeratti still in charge.
Seriously the lions can go feck itself until they start picking management and coaches that want to entertain, because this whole thing about winning a series is important is actually activly putting people like me against it as no one gives a shit if the lions win a test 6 weeks after the entire thing is done/
