You'd think they might at least have had the decency to keep this guy out of the public eye for a while after he basically insulted the entire nation of Brazil. Would a non-American or even an African-American have got away with it?

Lochte was required by the US team officials to forfeit his $100,000 in bonuses, and banned him from competing for 10 months. He also lost all 4 of his sponsorship deals with Speedo, Ralph Lauren, Airweave (a mattress company???) and Syneron Candera a hair removal company???. I don't have the figures to hand but I suspect those deals were worth a small fortune to him

In the sense that he is treated as a celebrity upon his return.

So what? he is a celebrity (in all the repulsive, egotistical, self serving ways that most of the individuals who go on these sorts of TV shows are considered celebrities) he's also a lying cowardly celebrity and everyone knows it. What more do you want?

Obviously, like all African-Americans, he should be shot by the Police.

The only comment I was really making was that it would have been a little more discrete if he'd kept a low profile for a while upon his return. From what I've read he's been shooting his mouth off in the press ever since he got back, giving his side of the story with little show of remorse, and now they're parading him about like 'Mr America' within just a few weeks of the event. Personally I think that's inappropriate and offensive, and evidently I'm not alone in that regard.
