Possibly a little late but anyone else think Cardiff's slightly overplaying its role as being instrumental in his emergence and success as an author? Heard someone on R.Wales recently suggest that 'his writing shed' was definitely spired by the boathouse. Really? Hundreds of authors would have something like this wouldn't they?
I like most of his stuff, but he was clearly a very complex man. Views on Jews and blacks weren't particularly enlightened. One wonders if the World would come off its axis if anything more sinister were to emerge.
