OK, this is probably a waste of time but fair's fair. Does anyone want to be strung up for blasphemy?

Only 1 starting cap post-1996. Feel free to vote "other"! I was always concerned that he apparently used tape to hold his eyebrows on.

GOAT. Obviously. And by fuck did he have to be some player to beat the likes of Kronfeld and especially Jones.

Did Michael Jones ever actually play at openside after the game went pro?

He never wore 7 in the pro era. I couldn't gurantee that he never packed down at openside.

My shortlist criteria are "players with the most starting caps from 1996 onwards who played mostly in the relevant position." Jones played mostly at openside, and had enough caps from 1996 to justify inclusion. Also, he was amazing. if you aren't convinced, the next cab off the rank into the shortlist would be Marty Holah.

Micheal Jones, at his 1987 peak, was on a level above Kronfeld, McCaw and all the others. The guy was as quick as a test wing and could jump in the lineout as well as a test lock. As a pure 'fetcher' McCaw is peerless but Jones had even more of the X factor at his peak.
