Autumn Training Squad Announced

Post by Mikey Brown »

Am I going blind? Has this been posted already?

I imagine there is a mix of motives here for Townsend so can accept a few odd faces or ommissions.

No idea who Bhatti is.
Don't know much about Graham except he's rapid and scored some good age-grade tries.
Ritchie is a prospect.
Bradbury/Jones not on the injured list is nice.
Bresler/Burleigh do not massively excite me.

Interesting to see Denton is there, I guess Townsend won't have seen him in person? We could really, really do with him hitting form again.

Anything else of note?

No Bennet or Richie on injured but invited list?

Bennett is miles away from being ready for Edinburgh (December apparently).

Bresler may not excite but he has a bit of physicality that is sometimes missing in the engine room. Burleigh is pish though.

Glad to see a few younger guys involved in the training squad for experience. Disappointed not to see Kinghorn involved. Tonks was ok in the summer but isn't the answer and unlikely to be a fixture in the LI XV.

Come to think of it, we have a few people out for November. Off the top of my head, they are...

Dickinson,
Sutherland,
R Gray,
Probably someone in the back row,
Bennett,
Hogg,
???

I know there are more, but can't think who. Should still have enough to beat Australia tho!

I think our team is fairly settled and I am not sure we will see much change from the norm except maybe the Samoa game. Only issue I see is the second row. I thought Hogg and Gray were due back in October? Assuming they is out we can field a competitive match day squad of:

Front Row Dell,Reid, Brown, Ford, Nel, Fagerson

Second Row Toolis + 2 of GG/Swinson/Bresler

Back Row Watson, Barclay, Wilson + Strauss or Hardie

9 Laidlaw, Price,

10 Finn

Centres Dunbar, Jones

Back 3 Seymour, Maitland, Visser

Backs subs Horne, Scott

Only actually realised Scott hadn't made the cut when I saw this.

Shame for Burleigh I guess but I just can't see him at this level and Scott should obviously be there.

Weird. But it's Townsend after all.
