I genuinely have no idea who benefits from this. We're obviously hoping that including two Currie Cup sides will get money and sponsorship into a pretty poor competition and SA are hoping that it'll get their players into a top European competition, but I can't see anyone being anything but disappointed and poorer for the experience.

I read that as RWC. Needless to say, reading the article was a bit of a let down.
On topic, can’t say I’m bothered either way. I’ve no idea why the SARU would waste all that money on a development comp.

Sorry! Will change the thread title to avoid any more clickbait problems.Mellsblue wrote:I read that as RWC. Needless to say, reading the article was a bit of a let down.

I think SARU might be the next LV= - conned into financing the competition with talk of it involving all of the top English and Welsh clubs, being fierce cross-border competition, and being the longest-running structured NH club competition, and not realising until after they've signed a multi-year contract that it's only tangentially tied to the old Cup competiton and is taken seriously by absolutely nobody.

I fail to see the benefit to anyone in this. It's sure going to complicate the layout though

I doubt anyone is expecting too much from this specifically, but its just more baby steps towards South African rugby aligning itself with the Northern Hemisphere.
