O’Connor a gonner?
Nothing in mainstream media but plenty of talk on social media/forums that O’Connor has been sacked from Leicester.
Anyone know anymore?
I can’t say I have any love for O’Connor, but it’s all getting a little bit too much like football for me liking.

Re: O’Connor a gonner?
There's been a bit of talk about it on the transfer rumours thread - Tigersman (who generally has a good gen on things) said he's confident that it's true.
I don't know if I agree with it per se, but a) I wasn't thrilled about the appointment to start off with and b) I cannot see what his strategy is or how he plans to improve us. So I'm not necessarily against it either.
However, given that we had a lot of time and opportunity after sacking Cockerill to get exactly the right person and structure in place, and we've ended up with this debacle, somebody's head has to roll a bit higher than MOC too.

Re: O’Connor a gonner?
Yep. I saw the comments in the Transfer Rumours thread after I posted this one.
I can understand why Tigers fans would be disappointed with the initial appointment and the subsequent sacking (if true). Personally, I would have liked to have seen what Mauger could have done if he had been given some time.
Who would you want to replace him?
If Richards to Northampton isn’t a done deal, would the Tigers board have him?

If true, this is a pretty quick and brutal dismissal. Tigers have been awful but a sacking at this stage of the season wasnt expected.

Re: O’Connor a gonner?
If there has been a dismissal then akin to the Loffreda sacking there's been a mistake by the board in what they were asking for and expected to happen, and as Puja notes that being the case the consequences shouldn't end with MOC

Re: O’Connor a gonner?
The whole thing from Maug going to now has been a clusterfuck. MOC was never the right appointment.
I was gutted when Maug went as he never really got chance as top dog. It is all reactionary! That said there is apparently quite some disharmony at the club.

I suspect it's a moot point - Richards would never come back to Tigers, at least not without every single member of the board involved in his sacking having gone.Scrumhead wrote:Who would you want to replace him?

The best option I've heard is Cotter, but that's got nothing more than hope behind it. I don't know who I want, but I want someone *right* this time. Not someone cheap (Murphy or West), or someone desperate (Jake White), but someone who knows what he wants to do and has ambition and plans (and the capability to execute them). I'll get lambasted for this, but I actually wouldn't mind Burt, if I thought he'd come.

Heyneke Meyer is still around ...
It would be good if an English/British coach got a chance but then again, anything other than instant success isn’t going to satisfy the Tigers board so it could be a poisoned chalice.

Re: O’Connor a gonner?
Deano would come if the chairman was sacked enough younger blood in the board that he wouldn't care about the others BUT the chairman is the big one.
Saying that i thought Hare would never return and he did so maybe it might be a case of ££££££.
Cotter would be great but can't see it happening.
In dream world would like to see maybe
DOR: Plumtree (Rumoured to be wanting a top gig somewhere)
HC: Vesty (Wuss attack is fantastic lately imagine what he could do with Youngs, Ford, Toomua, Manu, May, Veainu and maybe Cordero)
Scrum coach: Stanko (Enough Said)
Defence Coach: Whoever Plumtree wants.
Plumtree would be great, because he has been a forwards coach in South Africa, New Zealand and Test rugby for Ireland in the NH and was the forwards coach in their 2014 Six Nations win.
Prob won't happen but that would be my realistic choice.
One can dream
Then you have the playing squad......
Would keep:
Hookers: TPN, Youngs,
Props: Genge, Cole, Mulipola, Bateman
Locks: Wells (Barrow but if he has a attitude problem and doesn't fit so be it).
Back Row: Mapapalangi, Evans, Williams (Williams just becuase i do think under the correct coach he could be a very good 6)
Scrum Half: Youngs
Fly Half: Ford, Ford (J.Ford isn't that good but would like to see Hardwick play next season so no point trying to sign better IMO)
Centre: Toomua, Manu, Owen
Back 3: May, Veainu, Holmes, Malouf,

Meyer comes under the same category of desperate as White and Kirwan to me.Scrumhead wrote:Heyneke Meyer is still around ...![]()

I wouldn't say instant success is necessary. However, Leicester have never not qualified for the top European competition, so that's pretty much minimum standards. If we looked like there was a plan and everything was building, then I'm sure we'd take 6th/7th (with playoff win) to support a longer-term project. It's the aimlessness that doomed Cockerill and now MOC, not the lack of trophies.
I would agree with all of that. I did think of Vesty as an option; always liked hin as a player and he's done superb things with Wuss.Tigersman wrote:Deano would come if the chairman was sacked enough younger blood in the board that he wouldn't care about the others BUT the chairman is the big one.

As Puja said earlier, Lancaster isn’t the worst shout. However, I’d be concerned that the pressure of the Tigers job would be too much for his first DoR role. I think he’d be a great fit for Worcester.
Vesty is a very good shout as HC. Judging by the early evidence, he seems destined for bigger things off the pitch than he achieved on it.
I’m surprised Andy Farrell never gets a mention. His influence over the England set-up was generally seen as somewhat malign, but his work with Ireland suggests he’s a good coach and he definitely has the presence for a bigger job.

Any further news on this? A few days ago it seemed like this was a fairly well substantiated rumour but nothing seems to have happened?
