Ready,steady.. 8-)
Artistic gymnastics first up.
Triathlons soon after - Brownlees should bag something there.
Peaty's sticking to the shorter races & Daley's dramas continue after banging his head on the water...

Is any phrase more redolent of mediocrity and unfulfilled ambition than “Commonwealth Bronze”?

Not really. Not when “Commonwealth bronze” sits alongside “Brownlie brothers miss out on medals” in the same sentence.

England's world champion swimmer Proud gets disqualified for moving a leg too soon on the starting block...and no sign of Nige anywhere. :)
There needs to be questions in the Brownlee house about all that Yorkshire tea..from 1-2 to 7,10 for the young men is disappointing - maybe a move to Tetley ?

Until I read this thread I was delighted that a young man who grew up in the self same streets my kids are growing up won bronze in the triathlon.

But then all the achievers and high rollers of RR brought me back to reality.

That's the flip-side of course... Austin's been a high-performer for some years.Self-trained according to some notes..but credit to himself & the centre in Scotland for bagging the gong.

Be delighted. It was a fantastic achievement. Even better if some of the kids on those streets can get interested and involved in triathlon too.

My second cousin just got a silver medal.

And what the fuck were the Welsh team wearing in the opening ceremony?

It's pretty competitive in the Velodrome..medals hard earned.
Leftover Hawaiian shirts with spatterings of dragons? ..sort of out there.
Eng top the medal table after Day1, with hosts close. This recurring sideshow will add a bit to the proceedings. :|

Ah but what’s the per capita table say?

I guess that the seperate entry of every little bit of the UK will mean that a bronze in the bowls will shoot the Isle of Woolly Jumpers (pop. 2 men and a goat) to the top of the table.

The Isle of Woolly Jumpers isn’t part of the U.K. Like the Isle of Man, Jersey, etc., it is a self-governing Crown dependency separate from the U.K. and also not part of the EU.
And it’s a sheep, not a goat.

Pilger's view on the 'Stolenwealth' Games:

I would rather boycott a sporting event than celebrate imperialism, colonialism and genocide, not just in Australia, but around the world.

Ironically enough, England and the rest of the home nations will be delighted if they win a Bronze in the track events. Precious few of them even made it into the semi's.

I've noticed the Aussie tv coverage aren't too bothered about the score, or the leaderboard, or the unnecessary stat's and graphics that we usually get drowned with on US and UK tv. It's a bit frustrating at times but it's growing on me.
I've started imagining them in the control box:
'Hey Bluey, shall we show 'em the leaderboard..?'
'Nah. Let's see what this guy does'.

It is bloody good to see some free to air quality sports. This morning I watched 3 fantastic games of Squash and the 1km time trial in the Velodrome. It was a good Sunday morning.
Nice to hear amongst all the elegiac praise for Sir Chris from his protégés his response was to simply say:
'Of course for me it was Graham Obree'.

Mark Stewart was in absolute turbo clip at the end of his race. Great gold medal.

Meh. When I tell people I will not buy a German car some of my more tolerant friends tell me the war's over.
