Amazing piece of work for a kid in his mid-teens and still one of my all-time favorite singles. Richie Valens was America's first Mexican pop star (his roots, like most Mexicans,' were predominantly Native American) and La Bamba became the nation's first major 'Latin American' hit.

I appreciate that's a Lou Reed reference but it seemed apposite.
