Out of contract players
Thought that this could sit in either the Edinburgh or Glasgow threads so will leave it here. Cause for panic or big opportunity? What would you do in terms of resignings and the people heading up the clubs?
Re: Out of contract players
Is this planned for the end of the WC season? Work up to that and then start for the next cycle?

Re: Out of contract players
A lot of rugby contracts seem to be two year deals.
Some absolute must keep players in there.

Re: Out of contract players
From the key names list it doesnt look too disastrous. Some very good players but quite a few that I would imagine will be kee to re-sign for one reason or another. Key fights might be Jones, Kebble and Watson

From a Scotland POV Kebble needs to stay in Scotland so may not be too hard a fight.Cameo wrote:From the key names list it doesnt look too disastrous. I think that the following would be priorities to keep in Scotland:
Graham
Hastings
Horne
Johnson
HJones
Seymour
All the props
Ashe
Gilchrist
Watson

Yeah agree with that list (although from a Scotland rather than POV Seymour going abroad may not harm too much - there are arguments for Gilchrist going too considering the youngsters). My thinking on my reduced "priorities" list was that a lot of the young guys wont be looking to move yet anyway so should be easy enough to tie down.Big D wrote:From a Scotland POV Kebble needs to stay in Scotland so may not be too hard a fight.Cameo wrote:From the key names list it doesnt look too disastrous. Jones is apparently getting a lot of interest from the Tigers.

Re: Out of contract players
Both teams need marketable stars but you could argue Huw Jones isn't a great ROI in terms of his Glasgow performances.
G Horne could be the next big deal for the weeg.
Feel like this list is somewhat inflated with stop gaps like Du Plessis & Ceccarelli plus academy boys being given a 1 year prove-yourself deal or loaned out.

I kinda agree on Jones but it'd be a pity for him to go without having seen the best of him. There is also a long way to go this season.hugh_woatmeigh wrote:Both teams need marketable stars but you could argue Huw Jones isn't a great ROI in terms of his Glasgow performances.

There's now a BBC article suggesting Jones might go to Leicester

We desperatly need a third team, it seems like every acaemy player that gets their chance plays well , i reckon the production line is good but we do need more opertunities. I reckon its still 5 years away and wont happen until both Mini Murrayfield and Scotoun gets expanded to 10K

And maybe start winning things or competing for trophies consistently?whatisthejava wrote:We desperatly need a third team, it seems like every acaemy player that gets their chance plays well , i reckon the production line is good but we do need more opertunities. Aye and im not sure I agree they're necessary. Trying to grow support in another area isn't going to be a knock on effect from the existing teams (im not suggesting you're saying that). It's not coincidence that Ireland have got as good as they are with the 4 teams and the ability to retain and look after players.whatisthejava wrote:We desperatly need a third team, it seems like every acaemy player that gets their chance plays well , i reckon the production line is good but we do need more opertunities. The money just isn't there. They've been trying to sell of parts of weeg and Embra for 2 years to help fund what we have.OptimisticJock wrote:Aye and im not sure I agree they're necessary. Would a weaker Glasgow and Edinburgh be accepted just to squeeze a 3rd side in? Would the pro14 accept it?
The Caley and Borders area could only manage one super 6 side. That would and maybe should have been the testing ground for a 3rd pro side e.g run and build a franchise up into a pro side after 2/4 years. But money was one of the factors in why there isn't more super 6 sides in those areas.

I'm well aware of that and don't advocate another side until financially viable. That doesn't change anything I've said.Big D wrote:The money just isn't there. I know you know that. It was a post bourne out of frustration really as I don't think the SRU have approached it correctly and I don't think the fans would really buy in.OptimisticJock wrote:I'm well aware of that and don't advocate another side until financially viable. I think there was and still is potential to grow a 3rd pro team over time through the S6.
