Having an interim coach is a messy situation I'd rather avoid. But Schmidt would certainly be worth the mess if he's guaranteed to take over in 2021. If that's the route they go down, then it'd make sense to have one of Schmidt's chosen assistants as the interim coach. Therefore, I'm hoping we have Cotter as the forwards coach, and interim HC, who will revert to an assistant when Schmidt returns. Though it'd mean we'd also need a temporary attack coach for 2020. I wonder if Smith could be coaxed out of retirement for a year...
