Mixed feelings here - the last two paragraphs sum it up. Hopefully, the academy structure picks up and we can see a potential 3rd team taking off in the not too distant future...

“Scott will lead on player acquisition and contracting. He’ll be responsible for driving a new Academy structure and for heading up our coach development, which includes our priority of nurturing the next generation of Scottish coaches who can operate at elite level.

“Scotland 7s and Scotland Women will also be significant parts of his remit, while two of the pillars of professional rugby, strength and conditioning and medical, will report into him too along with a significant involvement with the national team."

The above was from the 2013 announcement.

I think he's broadly been a success as DoR.

Due to the nature and age of the coaches we have put through the UKCC level 4 we won't know if they are a success until they start breaking into the pro ranks. I suspect the S6 will see the coaches have a pathway.

That’s a real kicker but you can’t blame him. He has done an awesome job , one which I don’t think the majority of fans understand.

The 23 million from BT helped but another person might of squandered it. Building the academy structure , hive, ect.

For me Dodson needs to find a similar character and fill the role. Brian Ashton would be amazing but he’s older than god.

As if by magic:
The SRU wrote:The Super 6 clubs have today (Friday) confirmed their full-time head coach appointments.

Following the recent signing of the tournament Licence Agreements between all six clubs and Scottish Rugby, the posts have been confirmed.

The successful Super 6 head coaches include four from the Tennent's Premiership: Peter Murchie (Ayr), Rob Chrystie (Melrose), Steve Lawrie (Watsonians) and Ben Cairns, who will leave Currie to join Stirling County. They are joined by Ciaran Beattie and Graham Shiel, who take up the roles at Heriot’s and Boroughmuir respectively.

The head coaches have been interviewed, recruited and will be employed directly by each individual club.
Seems a really sensible set of appointments. All UKCC Level 3/4 coaches who have had involvement in national youth or club sides, academies or SRU blue print.

Hopefully a pathway for them to the pro game.

Need a quality replacement. Wait 10 mins and Jake White will apply for it.

Brian Ashton would be my pick but he must be close to 90.

It needs to be someone worth record in developing the academies, structures etc.

Hard to assess his role but the one thing I did like during his otherwise disappointing spell as coach was that he actually seemed to have a bit of faith in our talent amd talked them up a bit. Opposite of the Matt Williams approach
