6 Nations refs

Post by francoisfou »

Here's the breakdown of the 6 Nations refs by country:

England 3
France 4
NZ 3
Aus 2
S Africa 1
Wales 1

Aren't any Scots or Irish refs considered to be good enough? Only Nigel Owens from Wales, where are the others?
I've always been of the opinion that the 6 Nations refs should be predominantly from the countries involved, with one or two guest refs from the southern hemisphere.

Didnt we have one called Changelang or similar, or was that the Bay City Rollers?

Two Changleng brothers if I recall correctly. They made "Changleng" a by-word for poor refing.

Just be grateful there are no Irish refs.

(SCO) Adamson is just got his first HEC game but i thought he was poor
(WAL) Owens is the only decent ref in Wales
(IRE) Strangly enough Irish refs are struggling to get the big EU games as usually Munster and Leinster are in them
Lacey is retiring so its not really surprising
The rest are poor apart from Neville who like Adamson is early in their career

I think alot of the problem is the refs for the first few years are constantly monitored and nee to follow every changing dictat, once you get long enough in the tooth like Poite, Lacey and Barnes they tend to ignore what they are told and are to experianced to be dropped

Mind you Poite, Raynol are dangerous, they continual ignoral of dangerous play at the breakdown is worrying in the current cliamte

Both Wales and Ireland are experts at the shithousery of the breakdown and they have a french ref to basically ignore WWE suplexes

Was it Roman poite we had v South Africa who ignored their shenanigans* and missed Kolisi’s headbutt?

* = I’m aware we get up to all sorts as well, but that day I seem to remember it was a bit of a piss-take from the ref.

Yeah, he’s not the best. Not just for us, but in games generally. Communication poor and lets fatter teams delay the opposition ball by foul means too much.

I used to think he was ok, but his performances have dipped.

Anyway, we need to perform at a level where any referee’s ineptitude is taken out of the equation.

I think the Edinburgh pack need to blow the Italians off the ball so the backs can play to their tempo. With the ed forwards I’m hoping that the breakdown isn’t as slow as it was in the autumn

The one thing about our tight 5 is that it's pretty mobile. I am hoping we will see them get about the park.
