Time to change the name of my super rugby team.

Not a flippant comment, this terrible event makes it important to really think about what sort of ideologies could feel support from mainstream organisations regardless of those organisations intent.

People everywhere in the world need to clamp down on right wing hate. Scum feed off and are emboldened by articles such as Boris Johnson’s recent anti burqa article.

Sorry about the rambling. I’m more upset by this than I was the earthquake.

I agree about the ridiculous franchise thing Brian. I have cousins in Riccarton that were way too close to events for comfort. Not pretty. Probably about time something concrete was done about politicians using social media as an unofficial official conduit for propaganda. Enough. The xenophobic bile and carefully crafted falsehoods I am exposed to daily in the US seems to have had real consequences back home in NZ. That is unacceptable. Any public official that abuses any social media platform needs to suffer legal consequences. Enough with Facebook. A line needs to be drawn by forceful legislation. I'm so fucking angry about this.

We've seen how effective deplatforming nazi shitfucks has been. Deplatform them, and beat them with sticks until they're no longer nazis.

I think the Crusaders have as many reasons to change their name as Saracens or the Barbarians have. That is to say none.

EDIT: And, I mean, if you believe that the Crusaders have a legitimate reason to change their name, then surely you would also have to change the city's name?

EDIT II: I've not sought out his manifesto -- and have no intention to -- but I've not seen comments that there's a militant Christian influence. What comments I have seen are that he's apparently a self proclaimed Nazi (and "eco-fascist", I think?) and big on the /pol memes of 4/8 chan. Nazi's aren't terribly fond of Christianity, or any religion really, as it gets in the way of the states preeminent position. So this sort of name changing move may be barking up the wrong tree entirely.

Or at least that's what they should be like. Of course, dipstick neo-Nazi's often can't even Nazi properly, so this may be a moot point.

Sorry Zer0 but I can’t agree with you on this one.

Re edit 1: naming a city after a church and religious figure is very different from names that recall a war fought on the basis of that religion. Lumping all the beliefs of any religion alongside the worst of it is unfair.

Re edit 2: common use of language and terms that give mainstream credence to what pricks like this one think are best avoided. Nazis may not be all that keen on Christianity, but they will happily take on Christian values if they suit their ideology. So no to turn the other cheek, yes to crusading against Islam. They will ignore that the crusades were 1000 years ago as the violence suits their agenda.

They've hijacked Norse iconography, for fuck's sake, ruining that shit for everyone.

At the very least, the Crusaders will need to tone down a lot of their imagery.

Got to say lads. Your country seems to be responding incredibly well to this. Kudos.
