...not really. You could leapfrog New Zealand if they lose twice in a row to teams you've recently beaten; that's hardly unreasonable.

We will definitely lose a couple of those games; are they going to be four full fat internationals or are a couple going to be trial type games? If all four are full on then that’s one hell of a warm up!

I bet Gatland wishes he could cancel some of those matches. Wales are in a very good place whereas England and Ireland are both in disarray. They need those practice games much more than we do.

Agreed. The whole point of a ranking system is that it allows comparison without needing teams (or players) to be in one league (or to systematically play everyone else in some way).

I'd still feel pretty hollow about being ahead of a team we haven't beaten in my lifetime, though.

South Africa are still ahead of Japan.

Anyway, it's a moot point, as I don't see it happening, but I'll still be cheering for it.
