Sean Edwards and Warren Gatland both looking for work post the world cup. I hope the RFU are talking to them.

The Times are saying he has a deal in place with Wasps but hasn’t signed it yet as he wants the gig with England.

Defence. Head/senior coach under Dai (ouch) at Wasps.

I would take him as either for England. Prefer him as defence with Gatland as head.

England would be wise to contact both Edwards and Gatland.
I know some people dont want to consider Gatland as the next head coach, but when you look at his record for Wales and the Lions its very hard to top.
He understands the English game well, knows the players and has experience with Wasps to draw upon.
I struggle to see why he shouldnt be a very real candidate for the job post WC.

My assumption is this is merely bait, but on the off chance it isn't because he advocates some stupendously dull rugby, eschewing skill and promoting big men running into contact with a variation of bigger men running into contact

For myself I hope NZ employ him, but given his lack of interest in ability, skill and tactical development I just can't see them being interested

Ultimately thats what an international coach has to do.
Given the smallish squad he's had to work with in Wales, his record cannot be discounted.

For me it's not remotely enough, but it'd certainly be par for the course of the RFU to appoint him, probably even on a decent hike in wages

Because I detest Welsh rugby so much and dislike Edwards as an Englishman helping them, I often forget how much I loved him and Gatland at Wasps. I was absolutely devastated when they left; they couldn't have been better.

At times when Wales weren't doing so well, I questioned Gatland but now he's beyond question. Great at Wasps, he started the Irish revival after years of pain and has nailed it with Wales overall.

Sack Eddie and get these two in.

But let's be honest, Wales' record against good teams is actually pretty poor...Actually, quite terrible.

Played NZ 11 times. Lost 11 times. 0% win ratio
Played Australia 14 times. Lost 12 times. 14%
Played SA 15 times. Lost 10 times. 33%
Played England 16 times. Lost 9 times. 44%
Played Ireland 14 times. Lost 6 times, 1draw. 50%

Total games played against these 5 teams = 70. Total wins = 21. Win ratio of 30%

Is that what we want for England?

By the way, for comparison, during the same time England's also laughably bad results read:

NZ - Played 12, won 1 8% win ratio
Aus - Played 15, won 10 66% win ratio
SA - Played 12, won 3 25% win ratio
Wales - Played 16, won 9 66%
Ireland - Played 14, won 8 57%

Total - 31 won of 69 - 45%

And that includes Jonno...during which time we won 7 of 23 against these teams...including 0 against both NZ and SA. Jesus fuck that was grim.

Yeah, but it's also important to take into account other teams results in that period... When you're beating Aus and SA all the time... But their overall won %age is under 50%, its because they're shitter than I've seen in my lifetime, not because we're good...

Seriously, take away the past 3 years from Gatland's results against SA and it becomes downright embarrassing... 0 wins. To go with 0 against NZ and 1 against Aus in his first game against them.

I still reckon he is tailor made for england right now. Who else is even available? The pool of coaches is tiny.
