Shag’s legacy

Post by Lizard »

If, as now seems probable, Steve Hansen does not become the first head coach to win 2 world cups, what will he be remembered for?

Winning 1 RWC?

His ludicrous win rate (until the last 12 months)?

Being the coach of the first (and second) All Blacks to lose to Ireland?

Being only the second ever NZ coach v Lions to not win the series?

Being the coach of the All Blacks that shipped the most points ever in a test?

Possibly the first coach to lose the Bledisloe Cup since 2002?

There may be some ointment for that. Its made from the sweat of Matt Todd and the lanolin from spring lambs from Canterbury.

It’s easy to lose the faith when you don’t support cannabreeee. Getting used to losing is poisonous.

Shag was a 1980s cop, so a bit of physical correction is probably not new to him.

Seriously though, he’s now at risk of taking us to our lowest ever ranking.

Cantabs have now lost three on the bounce, including the 2018 final to Auckland. Seems it's all going a bit Third Century for the Evil Empire...

But you did... The only people claiming it's a drawn series are delusional English, Irish & Welsh supporters.

And, you know, the results, the history books, the IRB, basically everyone that's not you.

Yeah, but there were absolutely mitigating factors in it (Garces in the second test refusing to send off Vunipola, despite the precedent he'd set for himself earlier in the game with SBW) and the absolute shambles at the end when Poite lost his nerve and Garces came swooping in from the side to interfere like the dickhead that he is.

3rd would be worst equal. We were well behind England (1) and behind Australia (3) by 0.27 points the week of 17 November 2003, after those two teams won their RWC semifinals and we did not. We regained 2nd place over Aussie by beating France in the Bronze final, which is obviously a bull shit way to move ahead of a RWC finalist.

Let's not forget Hansen electing to take off Smith in the 3rd test, that might speak to his legacy, though no one really cares abut the jamboree tour

So apparently the All Blacks are back at no. 1. Didn’t even have to lift a finger.
