Sale vs Wasps
Good entertaining game, if not necessarily of a very high quality. Very odd red card situation near the end - Odogwu jumped for a kick and extended his foot out to catch the chaser in the face. He'd argue that he was balancing himself and he clearly wasn't impressed to get the card, but it looked very much like he was putting his foot out to ward off a tackler and ended up kicking him in the face.

Was entertaining. Curry was excellent all night. Really spoilt Wasps ball at breakdown after breakdown.
Redpath did well, well when Sale went beyond 12. Couple of mistakes though that was when shit got shovelled on and on. Credit also to Luke James who came on and made an impact.
Odogwu was an utter tit! And poor old Beaumont!! That’s got to sting!!

Highlight of a fairly dull game was Kirbrige's try. Great build up and a brilliant finish.
Odogwu can have no complaints. The red was entirely justified.

Just seen the highlights - Odogwu behaved like a prize prick when he was sent off

He did, and apologised for it straight away afterwards

What did he apologise for? The foul, laughing in the refs face, ironically applauding the decision or pulling faces at the crowd?

Couldn't see this bit on the highlights I saw. The laugh seemed more one of shock, but he really shouldn't be surprised when he views it back.Adam_P wrote:What did he apologise for? The foul, laughing in the refs face, ironically applauding the decision or pulling faces at the crowd?
I've been waiting for that exact incident to occur for a while. It's very strange how often the responsibility falls 100% on the chaser, whilst somebody jumping in to the tackle is rightly viewed as the one creating the dangerous situation.
Healey even says "you can do whatever you want if you jump in the air" which I thought was sarcasm at first.

Prize prick is being kind. Clear intent with the foot, and his reactions on receiving the card were those of a petulant spoilt brat............ with shit hairAdam_P wrote:Just seen the highlights - Odogwu behaved like a prize prick when he was sent off

I don't know that you could say he definitely meant to hit JVR in the face, but it seemed pretty clear it was throwing a foot towards the chaser in order to disrupt them.
I can understand wanting to protect yourself when you're in the air, but it's hard to explain what else that foot would be doing given he'd already caught the ball.

looks like a double movement to me. Struggle to see that simply as a rugby incident.

Hard to argue with the red tbh, I used to try and do something similar after kicking the ball, but in instances where I was prone to the late (cheap) shot from an opposition forward and I figured if they wanted to run into my studs at least we'd both be taking a hit, but doing it that late so the opponent gets no choice about taking the studs to the face isn't on.
Not a great reaction to getting the red card, at some point this needs to be addressed, whether they start with Odogwu I have my doubts

His leg is already straightening before he looks in front, his eyes are in the air. His hips are also further forward than his body, and his legs in front of that, so he's off balance, as his landing leg moves down, you need something else offsetting that movement, which is his other leg.
Stand on one leg, with the other knee bent up in front of you, now lean back a little and see what happens.
it's a red card, I'm not going to argue that, but the idea that you can be 100% sure of his intentions is nonsense.
There's also no chance that the tackler isn't hitting him in the air in that scenario even if he manages to keep both his legs down.

Re: Sale vs Wasps
I'd agree with you that it's not deliberately aimed at his head, but the leg is definitely being kicked out as a reaction to oncoming tacklers. He's unlucky that it makes contact rather than just warding the tackler off (as you said, the contact happens because he's about to be hit in the air), but it is dangerous and reckless play and, while he might not have intended to connect, he does intend to kick out towards the chasers.Raggs wrote:His leg is already straightening before he looks in front, his eyes are in the air. I still suspect his balance had a lot to do with kicking his leg out. His hips are in front of his body, he's already leaning backwards and trying to put his foot down. Natural reaction is to straighten the bent leg.Puja wrote:I'd agree with you that it's not deliberately aimed at his head, but the leg is definitely being kicked out as a reaction to oncoming tacklers. If the tackler had been able to reach Odugwu, it looks like it would have been perfectly timed. His other foot hits the floor at almost exactly the same time the contact makes with the tackler's head.Puja wrote:I'd agree with you that it's not deliberately aimed at his head, but the leg is definitely being kicked out as a reaction to oncoming tacklers. I would LOVE this to be banned and carded on a regular basis. And a retrospective ban given to Lee Byrne

That strikes me as the opposite of the natural reaction. If you're falling backwards, kicking your leg out forwards would accelerate your tip, would it not?Raggs wrote:I still suspect his balance had a lot to do with kicking his leg out. Was he trying to use JVR's face for leverage to do a backlflip perhaps?

Again, stand on one foot with your knee up, and lean back. What does your body do to try and compensate?Puja wrote:That strikes me as the opposite of the natural reaction.
