Forgotten just how good Lancaster's side looked when they got things right. I've seen the highlights of this game a dozen times, but they all focus on the second-half tries. This is 18 minutes in and 0-0, but it's as dominant as the RWC semi-final in a lot of ways.

Also, everyone looks so young. Alex Goode looks like his mum doesn't know he's out this late. And Corbisiero is fit and playing!

Aaron Smith has just been described as a young and inexperienced player. I'm old. Worse than watching the 2000s era - at least I recognise that as a long time ago (not helped by all the "son-of"s around) - this feels like not very long ago.

In fairness, they turned some other good performances as well, in the 6N and several times against Aus. Just a shame that Burt bottled it when it came to the RWC.

I forgot how good Tom Youngs used to be!

And Clancy was even shitter in the past. Somehow.

Tom Youngs was a really good carrier, great acceleration and determination. Never amazing darts, but made up for it.

A little - they did bottle it a lot of other times as well and the highs were much rarer than the lows. But when they were good, they were pretty damned good.

hmmmm. I remember some efficiency, the odd decent effort in defeat (away to NZ whereupon he dropped Burns the motm) and a couple of memorable AI games. But meh- Not bottled, just crap a fair bit.

It did help that NZ all died from coronavirus that week and England had an unopposed game, and even then they contrived one of the worst finished tries I've ever seen between Brad and Manu

Sometimes turning in a good performance is the mark of an average side, if that side has decent resources it's even the marker of a bad side

The first 10 minutes we ran hard, harder than we do now. But we kicked just as much but less accurately. Or hard running was also less impactful. Like a kinder price version of NZ at their best. Whereas now we play nothing like that at all.

Thought the overall quality of that 2012 game, from both teams, was way down compared to the World Cup semi.
