Take out the hype, take out the month leading up to it, and France were the better team for 80, not just 40.

Take out Lomu, and the score could very easily have been 20-10 the other way around at half time!

Speed of scrums always stands out in these old matches.

The other stand out is how skillfully the SHs are compared to now. Both were throwing accurate passes that I wouldn't put any money on any current SH making badly. Both were making passes at distances Ben Youngs can only dream of, and making them accurately, rather than the 5m radius that he'd require!

This. France really were a couple of bounces away from leading the first half.

I was also really surprised to realise that Kelleher was in for Marshall. Galthie creamed him.

Also, reminiscent of the game last year, the French pack beat seven shades of stolen chardonnay out of the ABs.

I also liked the lack of video reffing and the fact that players got on with it more. Still multiple red cards there nowadays....

Watching those 2019 tries, I kind of confirm two of my chestnuts and concede that I am not so convinced about another two - based only on bolting some speculation/re-interpretation on to very brief highlights. The two plus-points, in terms of try-scoring effectiveness, are that Slade's handling is too good for him not to be a starter and that Launchbury's work in the maul should give him a second row shirt. Where I have to choke on some bias is in accepting how good the attacking contributions were occasionally from Youngs at SH and Daly at FB.

Even your chokes are a little out of whack: Daly's issues are in defence; and the coaches entirely forgot about Youngs for the whole of 2019, whereupon he started to remember how he likes to play rugby
