Hopefully this is where the CVC money is going.

The current stadium may as well be on the moon in terms of accessibility, so anything that makes it easier to get to is to be welcomed.

It's a decent location, just off the M60 and close to a Metrolink stop. Hopefully it comes off.

8-12k stadium, better location, touted as being "state-of-the-art" - hard to see anything not to love there.

The council must surely still be owed a mint on the AJ Bell? They might well not be keen to rush into a new venture.

Is the AJ theirs or Salford's though?

Sharks don't own it; that has been Diamond's beef, that they can't keep the bar revenue etc. Mind you they knew the deal at the outset but such trivialities have never bothered him before. I think it is owned jointly by Salford Council and Peel Group.

Quick Google check; Peel and SCC set up a JV co and have continually pumped money into that. That JV co granted a 25 year lease to Sale in 2012 so presumably there is a way out of that. Any council involvement on the new one would be Trafford rather than Salford.

Ah, not the same council. I suppose as long as Sale can prove they have the backing and aren't looking to similarly impose on a different council that will make things a bit easier. I wasn't sure if the stadium was their place or not, I was just supposing the local council might think first things first pay us back for this one and then we'll talk.

My recollection is that AJ Bell was not built with Sale in mind. It was initially (and still is) the home of Salford RL. Sale we’re looking to exit Edgeley because some title issues didn’t allow them to do the redevelopment of it that Kennedy had initially intended and they took a lease on a ground share probably on v good terms as AJB was haemorrhaging money. All sorts of things were planned for the area around AJB but almost none have happened. It’s a sod to get to and because of some fall out or other you can’t even park on site now. The only good thing is, if you are affiliated with any local club you can get free tickets for more or less any game. The only sell out I have ever known was for this years Premiership cup final which didnt actually happen. Still leaking money but I don’t think the council can blame Sale for that. Ironically Sharks’ training ground at Carrington is owned by Sale FC, the original club, bought with Kennedy’s money, and leased back to Sharks (although I did hear they were moving next door to Bury’s old training ground).

Good that Sale will be in Sale, but this location will need well thought out and developed access points - the m60 & a56 nearby are gridlock central most weekday evenings & mufc is just a few miles up the road; could do without Sat. headscratchings.

I think it is already home to various clubs such as Sale Utd and Sale Harriers isn’t it, although appreciate neither will generate the same crowds. There will be a consultation starting this month I think. Link is in the one I posted above.

yes it was potentially the (relatively) big match crowds I was considering; the consultation process starts the week-after-next for 3 weeks I see...it will be interesting to see how the whole process navigates through the ongoing restrictions!

Nostrapuja predicts Sale will have gone through the consultation, planning permission, building, playing, then decommissioning and moving to Old Trafford, before Bath will have been allowed to lay one foundation stone on the precious Recreation Ground.

The truth hurts me too. Did you see that they've suspended all progress on it due to the Coronavirus, after about 9 months of f*ck all happening? They won the court case - why are they not doing anything aside from occasional erratic consultations?

Trafford Council have now pulled their funding package and general support for the new scheme so looks like it won't happen now.

Looks like this has been thoroughly NIMBY'd. Given pretty much every local authority is trying to get more leisure uses into their town centres, it must have been a fairly heavy anti match day travel/ parking lobby.

Nobody could have seen a local council not wanting to fund this
