ECC Final - Toulon v Bristol, Friday 20.00

Post by jimKRFC »

Bristol team:
15. Max Malins; 14. Luke Morahan, 13. Semi Radradra, 12. Siale Piutau, 11. Alapati Leiua; 10. Callum Sheedy, 9. Harry Randall; 1. Yann Thomas, 2. Harry Thacker, 3. Kyle Sinckler, 4. Dave Attwood, 5. Chris Vui, 6. Steven Luatua (c), 7. Dan Thomas, 8. Ben Earl.

Subs: 16. George Kloska, 17. Jake Woolmore, 18. John Afoa, 19. Joe Joyce, 20. Jake Heenan, 21. Tom Kessell, 22. Piers O’Conor, 23. Niyi Adeolokun.

Unavailable: Will Capon (ankle), Max Lahiff (calf), Charles Piutau (achilles), Nathan Hughes (ribs), Andy Uren (foot), Henry Purdy (hamstring).

Must be gutting for those injured as they've all worked really hard to get to the final. FIngers crossed Bristol actually turn up this time (unlike against Wasps).

Given the performances of that Toulon side against Scarlets and Leicester, this shouldn't really be a competition. Still, French side on the day, etc, etc.

TBH, that Toulon side's pretty French for them! Probably why they're so rubbish nowadays.

I'm a little nervous for Bristol. This Toulon side isnt that terrible, they do have a smattering of good players and will be playing on home soil. Bris have come off a chastening defeat to Wasps, are missing a few players and maybe are running a bit low on gas.

Wow, this is the first Toulon squad I've looked at seriously in a while, and it's almost unrecognisable. Expect them to keep this tight.

Seems hard on O'Conor not to be starting in this, he's been one of Bristol's standout players

late change for Bristol - Luatua drops out of the side and Joyce comes in, with Vui moving to the back row and Ed holmes to the bench.

Bad news for Bristol as Luatua is doe so much good work for Bris. He's staying home as his wife is in labor.

Well congratulations to him! A blow to lose him for this, though

It's a future England-qualified Luatua though, which is nice.

I really like O'Conor

He's one of these players that never gets mentioned for England, but where you have the sense that, were he to get called up by one of the home nations, we'd regret it

I'm still annoyed about Tomkins

I’m pretty sure he’s eligible for both Ireland and Wales.....

Yep, you’re right. It might be Aus rather than Wales.

Hmm true. I'm still waiting to hear whether the Mulipola/Castrogiovanni twins are playing rugby yet. Cockers did suggest he'd signed them up to a pre contract agreement...

Bristol their own worst enemies here. 10 nil up and running away with it and then just a series to calamities and it's even scores again.

Toulon getting away with murder at the breakdown. Hands beyond the ball constantly, no release, not rolling away. Brace ignoring it all.

Etzebeth was extremely disappointing. Parisee still has it for 60 minutes at least
