The Rugby Magazine Fantasy partners with Restart Rugby

If you needed another reason to play The Rugby Magazine’s excellent fantasy rugby game, they’ve recently announced a great partnership with Restart Rugby:
https://therugbymagazine.com/gallagher- ... p/for-them
50% of upgrade fees go to supporting Restart, so no excuse not to spend a few pounds to support a great initiative.
We already have a great little Rugby Rebels league, but I’d love to see some more participants this season.
Get involved!

Here are the codes to get into our league:
https://therugbymagazine.com/fantasy/le ... ac3e187845
Unique Token: 79ac3e187845
It's free if you don't want to pay for the upgrades (I did, cause it's only £11 to get all the Opta stats for the year). It's a very in-depth system, with points scoring being based around the Opta stats for things like metres made, tackles completed, passes, turnovers, penalties conceded, etc, so it's not like other fantasy games where you're just guessing the try-scorers to get points. It actually requires you to know your rugby to do well* and it'd be good to see some of the opinionated people on here show whether they actually know what they're talking about.

*I did get into the RR playoffs last year. Just saying

I second Puja. We need more in our league. Don't worry about coming last and making a fool of yourself that's my job (and I'm damn good at it).
Give it a go, you won't regret it.

I'm in. Should be fairly easy for you all to beat a scottish interloper (again).

are we automatically back in the league once we've signed up?
Surprisingly tough pulling a squad together this time round - a lot of last year's cheaper players are noticeably more expensive!

AFAIK, yes.
I have my squad tentatively planned (and budgeted for). Just waiting for the lineups for the rest of the games before I commit.

i have most of the nuts and bolts in place. I'm curious to see if any players not on duty with England get released. I'm not sure they would be? But that may influence my decisions.

Oooh, lots of new entrants rolling in. We should have a roll-call so we know who the hell runs each team. I am, unsuprisingly, the Pujover Tries.

I am running the Honeybadgers. After the first round you will see me comfortably in the top of the bottom third of the table.

I wasn't planning on joining but I did in the end. Just got to finalise squad but damn, it seems tough this year.
No-one is cheap.

No-one is cheap.
Plus you can expect experienced internationals to only pay a couple of club games (if that) until March.

Yeah, but the non-internationals are expensive! There are very few bargains to be had.

I'm Shotgun XV this year. Glad others have joined. I am the great barometer for mediocrity in this league

Last time I didn't last the distance. Not sure if I will this time either and I've not been watching as much as I used to so my opinion on some of the less well known players isn't going to be the best, but I'm going to give it a go. Daft Serious RFC again.
Struggling to figure out the team and wondering how many internationals I should go with... 1 or none?

My plan is I have gone with none. I can't see the point of paying for someone who I can't select for a while. I will revisit that plan in March to lift me off the bottom of the league.

Does Jack Willis count?

Nope. I've toying with picking him as captain on the basis that he might have a reaction to being dropped, but on the flip side, he might be taken off after 50 minutes to protect him. Decisions, decisions.
Got my initial squad together - 28 players with £556k to spare, although I've no doubt I will change it 50 times in the next 6 hours, most likely to its detriment.

I'm undecided on Willis, but I don't want to drop any of my backrows, tbh, I think it's a strong group for me. I had him originally, but chose SSimmonds instead, who won't miss any rugby, injury permitting.
Wing is a tough one, as the Bath wings are sooooo expensive. I would have picked one of them against Newcastle. Instead I'll look elsewhere.

My theory is always to go expensive early. It's free to transfer players in, but costs to transfer more than 2 out in a gameweek, so I find it better to have an expensive player that I can ditch to bring in 2 cheap ones when selection gets hard later.

Similar here. I've got a squad of 29 with £677k left. I reckon that there's a couple of bargains in the back row but am just going to hope that their value doesn't increase too much and I'll bring them in when injuries start to hit.
Anyone else got oddly few Exeter players?

Squad of 29 with only 10k left, so I am immediately concerned I'm doing something wrong.....

28 with 546k left...
Just realised I've done the same as last time: no Glos players...I also think that's a tad expensive, but don't know where to cut down
