With luck, you'll deliver them their first ever group stage defeat on the opening weekend and leave them scrapping against Italy for the second qualifying place!

Back to being wary of France. I can see them building, and I like it.

The question has to be the running order of the pool. Do they follow traditional RWC etiquette and open with the biggest game - France vs New Zealand - which could set the tournament and country on fire if les Bleus win, but run the risk of losing the general public's interest if the hosts lose? Or do they follow 2015 and 2019's example and let the hosts open with a challenging game that they ought to win (all due respect to Italy)?

ETA. Looking back at things, I'm clearly mistaken. I thought previous iterations of the RWC had the host opening against their biggest pool rivals, but I'm clearly wrong - 2011 was NZ vs Tonga (not France), 2007 was France vs Argentina (but Ireland were probably considered a bigger threat), 2003 was Aus vs Argentina (not Ireland), 1999 was Wales against Argentina (not Samoa). I'm clearly getting this memory from 1995, where South Africa faced Australia first up.

Indeed they are. The current squad may find themselves favourites with England or the 6Nations(the England v France game on March 13th may be the decider), but there are several very promising younger players who may not even make the 6N squad which augurs well for 2023.
