Sutherland - I know Wyn was MOTM against Wales but was outshone by most of the Irish players
Turner - Perfect lineout scores
Fagerson - Why not, furlong was goo when he came on but he lost and fagerson didn't
Gray - Best performing lock of the weekend
Itoje - In over Ryan, who i thought was quite, old man Wyn Jones was old
Birne - Thought he was very good, and we need a token irishman
Watson - Harsh on Tuperic but I'm not dropping Watson
CJ Stander - Thought his carrying was very good, no idea why he wasn't carrying like that last year

Price - Gibson park was very good when he came on, but no one else deserves it
Russell - No 10 had a super game, so Russel gets in because I cant spell Sexton and we need zammit for a token welshman
Zammit - Great try , played well and took his try very well
Redpath - Harsh on the Irish 12 but Redpath was better
Ringrose - Was quite in the middle but started well and ended well and loos a handful
VDM
Hogg

I'm assuming the criteria is only 2021 6N form rather than an actual selection?

Yes. The title says it. We usually get lions teams on Monday from the usual outlets.

Have to disagree about Furlong. I didn't think he was goo at all. I thought he was pretty good after a long lay off.

Ive been pretty down on Scotland last couple of years, apart from wales in the 6N last year who i thought we would beat (up till gameday) I've had genuine concern of the team. They seemed incapable of playing above themselves, squeaking past teams, backs not quite working, momentry lapses of ill discipline or focus letting teams beat us.

saturday was prob the best Ive seen Scotland play in 30 years, people have been comparing to NZ a few years ago and yes while that game was good

a) we let that team back into it
b) NZ let us play our game

Saturday we went up against the team that should have won the RWC and beat them in every area of the game and stopped them getting near our try line. We can make as many excuses about England as we want, they were cold, undercooked, too reliant on players not played in a couple of months

but we went to a place which has consistently and repeatedly crushed our dreams for 70 years and took them apart.

Damn right we have 10 starters based on that performance.

Take nothing away from Tuperic, Furlough, Ringrose, Henshaw, Wyn, Itoje, Lowe, Gibson Park, North, Zammit who all played very well
but the irish/welsh game had very little of the intensity that the Calcutta cup had.

But it makes nothing if Scotland doesn't back it up next week, and the week after and prevent us talking about could a , would a , should a

I want to be smoking what MCgeechan has been

Ken Owens ?

At one point the welsh lineout had a success criteria of 66%
Murray - Genuinly looked old and tired and the difference of Gibson Park was night and day

Rest are ok

he was. Looked fitter than ever as well. So much better than the face planting penalty machine alternative you have

Murray was fine TBH, and I'm not a huge fan. His role in the Irish system is clear and he executed it well. Very quick to breakdown and ball away in a flash. And box kicks. JGP came on and buzzed about as Ireland tried to up the pace and chase the game. Funny how often 9s come on late and look better i that situation. Being honest I'd be happier to face Ireland with JGP at 9 than any of Murray, Cooney, McGrath, Casey or probably either of the two Connacht 9s

Old man Owens though! Ok in most aspects (no more than that) until he ran out of steam (quite early), but on this occasion their lineout problems looked almost entirely down to his throwing. Turner was a cut above any other 9 this weekend

Murray is living on reputation, that welsh team was there for the taking (even after the card) and I really felt that both Murray and Sexton really didn't get their team going.

Your right though, the scrum coming on to a team chasing will always look better because they have to play faster and looser to try and make something happen.

Henshaw was very good and it was a toss up between him and Ringrose

oh I agree that Murray has been playing on reputation for quite a bit, but he was fine yesterday IMHO. Sexton is a different matter. he is a problem not just because of his failing powers but his attitude and manor. The reluctance of the Irish at club and country to move on even gradually was maybe initially excusable because of the Jackson thing and Carberry's injuries, but its now a real issue.

It suggest either an over-dependence for which the coaches are liable, or he exerts too much influence directly and indirectly, and his going will be like Matt Busby then Sir Alec leaving ManU. Also TBF the Irish have always had a penchant for having the oldest team in the universe playing

Some argue it's a bean counters issue as they are centrally contracted its cheaper to play them than bringing in younger players who would get a fee. The irfu deny that accounts play any role in team selection

I know it isn't the spirit of this thread but Simmonds shouldn't be excluded because Jones won't pick him.

I think the lions are getting fucked.

Struggling to name 1 English forward except itoje that should be on that plane
Struggling to name 1 non English wing who could be on the plane
Can’t see the sarries guys getting on the plane considering they won’t play post 6N
Ireland - great players underperforming and Sexton is killing them
Scotland - still a belief issue
Wales - it’s mental to say this but , can that team actually beat anyone without playing 14 or having the ref give them 14 points.

I can’t quite decide if Gatland builds a squad around wales because if he does the Lions will be destroyed. That teams luxk will run out and my money is in the autumn when a couple of the older guys retire.

Scotland are looking good but I can’t see Gatland building a squad around the scots as he just doesn’t know them and when the France game gets cancelled it hardly helps the scots

He can’t build a squad around England because they have become penalty magnets.

Building a squad around Ireland is also trouble as they could well lose one or both their matches

I think it will be interesting to see what defensive coaches he gets, will indicate his thinking.

Realistically edwards is out because he is in France
Farrell or Tandy are prob the front runners as getting Jenkins is just far too green.

Back 3 options are good, adams, Williams, hogg, lrz and Watson

Not much after that to be excited about

9 is bleak

Lions always have 1-2 bare positions.

I am intrigued to see how Gatland wants to play. Realistically going head to head with the saffers is a non starter so high impact high fitness players hoping to beat them in the backs.

I'd put Keenan into the mix there as well, been very impressed with him so far

I was tempted but he's what 3 games in and there still is pretty competent 9s around even if none are setting the heather on fire.

think Gatland has a hell of a time ahead of him with the English not performing
and Wales moving away from his style and
SA being RW Champions and smashing the English based game.

Never really rated Gatland as a coach (partly because i watch rugby to be entertained) , I think he is far too conservative but this is the first time when i really don't think he can win playing the way he wants to. They say great coaches adapt, so will he adapt or will he stick with the tried and tested and hope that he scrapes home.

It all comes down to the coaches he picks which will demonstrate his intent.

I like Keenan as well, and there's still time for Stockdale to come back to form. I can see May also being involved given that you can't fake out and out pace.

Sadly I can see Gatland being enamoured with Lowes big left boot and power, and backing himself to get Daly back to form.

I see what you're saying but I really rate Watson and would rather see him start with LRZ on the other wing. I noticed that neither Duhan or Darcy Graham got a mention.
I think if you're looking at Gatlands style Duhan is right up his street. He could play Duhan on 1 wing and North on the other, if he can convert Sam Symmonds into a 12 and play Davies at 13 this might be his dream team!!

Im not sure Davis will go, i really don't think his form and injuries mark him above Ringrose, Harris or Slade - but saying that he was lions player of the tour last time and can still pull a shift and Gatland needs guys he knows. Actually i reckon injury or a complete collapse in form is the only thing stopping him or a defense structure that doesn't suit him .

With Kolbe on one wing Zammit, Graham, Lowe or someone needs to mark him, he could run around DVDM and North without skipping a beat
