Divided Club fans - Slade antivaxxing

Post by Doorzetbornandbred »

Well this came out yesterday, each to their own and it is a choice but it puzzles me why has he gone public with it? Will it effect him down the line with England? Chiefs fans are divided on it.

Wonder if Exe's medical staff might want to have a word with him and outline the benefits of being vaccinated.
From a practical point of view, overseas travel might be an issue if he persists with this stance.

Would he have refused it if he’d be selected for the Lions tour?

Given the public opinions of Harry Williams and the statements of Rob Baxter, you have to wonder if it's not something rotten at Exe that's instigated this bit of antivaxx.

ETA - Doorz, why this title and not something like "Slade being a tit"? Burying the lede slightly.

He's diabetic too. Really foolish.

But he fits in well with the Exeter boys though.

I'm sure odogwu had fun avoiding the subject with him.

'I have had vaccines in the past and have fallen pretty unwell with them afterwards'

Not as ill as you will get it you catch Covid what with you diabetes and all. Also coming out and spouting off in the media, especially to a shit rag like the Daily Heil really is stupid and just fans the flames for the anti-vaxers.

What is it with Exeter and Covid idiocy?

Really disappointing to see from a club so worthy of admiration.

Their rugby is. Their players and their branding not so much.

Henry Slade has turned down the vaccine and gone public about it

What a nob. What's he thinking?

To be honest, now they're no longer plucky underdogs I find them increasingly unlikable.

Just an aside regarding a very different case, Folau was censured for his views since it damaged the ARU brand, right? How boneheaded in one's public comments does one have to be to be censured?

I'm not sure if you're joking, but I actually would

The impact of the anti-vacc movement is incredibly damaging, so even ignoring Covid, this is an idiotic thing to be coming out with.

The WHO is saying they're safe...but a bloody rugby player thinks he knows better. I find it very irritating

I'm not joking.

Seriously...I'd even put out a press release saying he's immediately become unavailable for England selection.

I just don't understand, considering the fact we've seen the bloody Russian PR agencies have been paying bloggers and YouTubers to lie about the vaccines, how anyone can believe they're "unsafe" and come out to say it. FFS.

Drop him immediately, with the loss in England payments that come with it. Exeter seems a hot bed for these idiots, what with Williams, too.

I don't see why anyone should be obliged to employ someone who reveals themselves to be so stupid. And yes England should act on this (supposing it's true) to say he's removed himself from contention. It'd be one thing if the vax was showing up as a risk for diabetics, but that isn't remotely the case

I could sort of understand if he said he wasn't going to take it till the offseason - he says he gets ill after vaccines and, while I think that'd be solved with a good dose of placebomycin, I can understand him not wanting to compromise training/playing midseason. However, not taking it at all is evidence of both incredible stupidity and incredible selfishness.

A slightly more balanced output from HS - possibly in reaction to the twitter massif who have essentially vilified him

Or possibly in reaction to someone at the club pointing out that he shouldn't be surprised when a reporter, reports what he's actually said. And they've told him he needs to walk it back.

He'll consider it when it's his turn? He's diabetic, it was his turn a long time ago.

"I just think there hasn't been anywhere near enough testing to deem it safe."

No vaccine in the history of medicine has been as rigorously tested as this one, Dr. Slade.

I'm serious too. Quite apart from his team mates and opponents, stadiums full of fans shouldn't have to worry about thick super spreaders among the players.
