Covid coming back

Seems more and more likely games are going to be cancelled again. Wasps struggled to put a team out last week, Sarries have just called off their game this weekend. It's all rather grim.

I'm sure it's nothing that burying our heads in the sand a little more won't solve.

It was inevitable. Sport doesnt exist in isolation, so players/staff getting infected was always going to happen.

if omicron really takes off, there must be a strong likelyhood that many games will be lost and restrictions placed on people attending games.

yep, and they have just done the latter, in part if ground is more than 10k.

Voluntarily taking a couple of weeks off the fixture list, with a bit of foresight on rearranging things, and putting players and staff into as near isolation as possible for a short period, would probably save much more difficulty decisions down the line.

We know that isn't how things are going to roll in this country though.

With the new French restrictions being put in place there are doubts over whether the Champions Cup can continue. Currently, elite sport is not exempted, and UK teams would have to isolate for 7 days and returning French teams from the UK would have to do either 5 or 2 day PCR test release.

Given the ERC's tough attitudes so far towards blaming *someone* for COVID cancellations, what kind of conclusion do they come to with that?! Every French team suffers a 28-0 walkover because their government is being stern on travel from the UK?

It's past time a vaccine mandate was imposed on all teams and support staff, no?

If we can somehow distill the vaccine into drinkable liquid form, we could surely get the majority of the remaining unvaccinated British rugby public 'jabbed' through the 6N by hiding it in pints of Guinness?

But freedoms! It's basically like Hitler/Stalin/Mao Tse Tung/The Holocaust/1984/Whichever comparison makes it clear that you've never actually faced any oppression in your life.

There were incentives earlier in the season for clubs to be over 85% of players and support staff vaccinated, most notably the ability to not have to wear masks pitchside, and the majority of English clubs appeared to have hit that. No prizes for guessing one club that did still have to wear masks on the sideline though...

Then they shouldn't be fucking playing. I can't think of many better ways to spread a respiratory virus than 80 minutes of full contact, a couple of hours of socialising, then getting on a plane. Can't someone dose their roids or something?

No roids in Exeter. Sheep's blood and moss.

I sometimes wish this forum had the ol' thumbs up function. I'm too lazy to dig out the Haskell gif.
But I appreciate how old school it is at the same time

When? Is there a gap in the season to accommodate this?

Just a quick fix as I can't see the return fixtures going ahead in January either. It's a mess.
