Quins are looking very settled. Our focus has been on negotiating new contracts for a good chunk of our existing squad (17 to be precise).
It’s disappointing on all sorts of levels that Hugh Tizard is leaving (particularly given where he’s off to), but beyond that I’m not expecting any major moves (in or out).
No-one seems to know how long Huw Jones’ contract is, but he’s starting to make a lot more of an impact now so I think most Quins fans are hoping it’s for longer than just this season.

Best place to be in really. Quins have got a pretty well rounded squad, if they can keep their opensides fit they'll be stronger again next year. Is there a young 9 coming through being eyed up as the long term Danny Care successor? I know at 35 he's still performing like he did at 25 but at some point he's presumably going to have to start slowing down.

Scrum half is a bit of a weak spot for us. After Care, we have Gjaltema who is apparently highly-rated, but it’s hard to know whether he is up to it given we see so little of him (a few minutes here and there). We also have Steele who is decent enough as a second choice, but seems to be spending a lot of time injured lately and Stafford who is just squad filler.
I think we extended Care to buy us time to find a replacement. He’s definitely on the decline, but will still leave massive shoes to fill.
With the changes to EQP numbers down the line, I think we’re focusing on our academy and putting ourselves in a more financially sustainable position, which is definitely the right way to go. It looks like the direction will be mostly homegrown players plus key talent being imported from elsewhere as and when it’s needed.
We seem to be developing the knack of bringing players through at the right time. For example, Tizard and Hammond were in the academy at the same time. I rated Hammond as the better of the two but Tizard broke through a lot quicker. I assume that’s because he was simply more ‘ready’ for it, whereas Hammond is only starting to get first team action now he’s bulked up a bit. If Hammond can get to the standard Tizard has reached, I’ll be very happy. Others like Riley, Beard and Baxter are being slowly integrated in to the first team and we seem to be getting good at identifying who’s ready for it. We have another exciting drop behind them too.

Quite vulnerable to Eddie taking Hill and Ford away, alongside Curry and possibly Quirke.
Very reliant on youngsters as back up half backs as well as crossing fingers on Barrow coming good to bolster the lock resources.

My first thought is that’s a lot of ballast to be losing. My second thought is the food bill at saints is probably going to go down a bit.

I'd like to think there will be more to come, Naiyaravoro will free up a fair wad of cash. Think Api will be the biggest miss, he's been excellent

Scott-Young would be a good signing. I haven’t seen him play for a couple of years after cancelling my Sky Sports package, but he impressed me when he was coming through with the Reds. He’s a big, abrasive 6/8 and I imagine he’d do well in the Premiership.

They have a lot of good second rows though, hopefully Coles will kick on even more.
Where is Francis off to? I also heard Grayson was off.

I think the Grayson thing was just rumour based on his slightly odd omission from match day squads, and then not coming off the bench on the odd occasion he was selected. He was capt in the cup game the other day though.
Not seen anything on where Francis is off to, got to think that retirement may be on the cards due to his injury record - particularly head injuries

Quite apart from anything else, his younger brother looks absolutely mustard at 12, so James might be kept on in the same way that Freddie Tuilagi Jnr was kept in the Leicester academy despite absolutely not having the right stuff. And Grayson the Elder has the advantage of being a decent Prem player, even if he's not a world beater.

Grayson the even younger looks likely to replace Francis doesn't he. Definitely looked the business for the under 20s.
If Falcons are losing Haydon-Wood then Grayson the younger could go up there and be first choice fairly easily, Bret Connon is a solid pro and nothing more, he shouldn't be keeping Grayson out the side. That regular action could be good for him. He's 23, two years of regular first team action to develop would leave him at 25 entering his prime and his agent no doubt answering a lot more phone calls.

Have they not? Signings aren't always announced straightaway and I've not seen the announcement of a new contract for Grayson. Haydon-Wood is confirmed as leaving so Falcons will need another 10 as it is all but confirmed that Joel Hodgson is also off.

Not according to someone who would probably know (and Saints have announced departures). But then again....

Updated with Hughes' an Leuias departures. Hughes confirmed in an interview & Leuia on the official site.
Sad to see Leuia go but not fast enough for wing & defensively unpredictable at 12...

Rugby paper reporting that Sale are also losing the services of Josh Beaumont and Hammersley - both to retirement apparently. In addition to the mid-season losses of Solomona and Yarde, plus the confirmation that RJ Van Rensburg is also off back to SA, Sale are looking at a very small squad next year.
Axe said last week that there were 8-10 leavers, so this would tally with that.
If true, then I'm praying that Axe is scouring the market for a decent 4/5, 13 and 15. Lot of people to lose all at once.

Long list of leavers for Irish including some big names:

I don’t think they’ve announced any arrivals as yet either so presumably there’s new on he horizon?

Salary cap biting and clubs having to reduce squad size? Article in the Mail yesterday suggesting a lot of players are being released and dont have anywhere to go to. France isnt on the cards as they promote home grown talent and the Champ is broke. Could be a lot of guys retiring early.
