Tom Youngs retires from rugby

It's been coming, but still sad to hear. Did a lot in the game - moving from playing wing for England U20s to playing hooker at the top level - over 200 games for Leicester, 28 England caps, 3 BIL test caps. Deserves more respect than he got at times.

Best of luck to him in his future endeavours and best wishes for the health of his wife.

ETA. Just looked it up, he converted from centre/wing to hooker at age 22 and was capped by England just 3 years later. That's a hell of a thing to accomplish.

At his best he was a real cannonball of a carrier, felt like he lost that later in his England career.

I'm at Welford Road on Saturday, really hope he comes down and has a walk round. Proper club man and family man in my eyes and a very good player.

Best move he ever made switching from centre to hooker.
I thought he won more England caps. For a while he was a top player and has never been less than wholehearted and committed.

Good player, rep perhaps unfairly tarnished for having been part of the Lancaster debacle. I was surprised he was discarded so suddenly.

What a great tribute. I'm sure Welford Road (sorry, Mattioli Woods Welford Road) will let him know how much he's respected.

Great servant to Tigers and England. Leaves the game with an impressive honours list having represented England in all age grades, 7s and seniors. The Meyer inspired move from inside centre to hooker really rejuvenated his career. Only Johno has captained Tigers in more games.

He's retiring on his terms which is always good to see and hopefully his wife's health will improve so he can enjoy his family and his farming back in Norfolk.

I'm genuinely so glad that he's doing that and that I'm going to be there. The guy has been through a lot.
