I know next to nothing about those lads. Who are the stars we should look out for?

George Perkins has looked very good at Bedford this season. Serious wheels.Oakboy wrote:I know next to nothing about those lads. Who are the stars we should look out for?

No Protheroe? Thought he was the great hope of English/Welsh rugby?
No Underhill is a shame. Would have liked to have seen him tear it up at this level. But Will Evans is a pretty special talent at 7 too.

Underhill presumably with the Saxons. My hunch is it would have been better for him to have a go at this level, but I'd trust the managements judgementTimbo wrote:No Protheroe? Thought he was the great hope of English/Welsh rugby?

Not sure where Protheroe is...maybe he's done a Moriarty!

Mallinder had another eye catching game on the weekend. He looks a real prospectBanquo wrote:Mallinder and Williams you must have seen?Oakboy wrote:I know next to nothing about those lads. Who are the stars we should look out for?

Reckon we could see a Brophy Clews-Williams-Marchant midfield with Mallinder at 15? That's pretty strong on paper.TheNomad wrote:Mallinder had another eye catching game on the weekend. Will Evans, Mallinder, Williams, Perkins are the main stand outs for me.Oakboy wrote:I know next to nothing about those lads. Who are the stars we should look out for?

Yeah - I think Mallinder's a 12 long term but with a view to getting our best players on the pitch, I think that works. The backs look like a good unit.Timbo wrote:Reckon we could see a Brophy Clews-Williams-Marchant midfield with Mallinder at 15? Not sure the pack is quite up to previous years' standards though, as evidenced by a fairly poor 6Ns

Protheroe isn't qualified to play for England in the JRWC.

Re: U20 squad
B-C, Williams and Mallinder will raise the level of this side significantly. Pack seems pretty solid without anyone looking like the next Paul Hill, Clifford or Itoje. Evans is new to the squad and he does look a very good prospect at openside.
My worry is SH. Green looked very ordinary in the 6N's, while Randall (who looks all of 14) is stepping up an age group. Good player, though, so here's hoping he can prosper.
England will be better than they were during the 6N's. They cannot fail to be.

Re: U20 squad
Last time I checked (during the 6N); there were no qualification criteria to play for England at the JRWC. Qualification requirements only apply to countries who nominate their kids as their second senior team.Tigersman wrote:Protheroe isn't qualified to play for England in the JRWC.
Basically that comes down to the gentleman's agreement, of "if he plays in England, he's eligible for England"

Nope I'm right
6N's = No Criteria
JRWC = Normal Criteria

Re: U20 squad
I sit corrected then.
I'd guess that I was looking at IRB regulations, rather than competition rules.

Players to look out for?
Obviously Mallinder, Williams, Marchant, Evans and Jack Walker.
Brophy-Clews is a very classy fly half.
Josh Bainbridge an all action flanker who's been getting great reviews at Leeds. Lewis Boyce is another very good front row prospect.
Both 8's are good prospects. Going to be a good contest to see who starts. I'd say Chick flanked by Evans and Bainbridge with Mercer on the bench.
Matt Gallagher, son of John the All Black is one to watch.
Harry Randall may be U18, about 3 stone dripping wet but he's a hell of a prospect!
Surprised Prell didn't make the cut, but then back three is a tough call.

I didn't realise Kipper had a son who played at that level.

He's a decent player too. Predominantly a fullback, but can play wing too.Lizard wrote:I didn't realise Kipper had a son who played at that level.

Harry Randall = 5'3" and 8 stone according to Gloucester academy webpage. Takes a serious pair of melons to play this level of rugby at that size.Epaminondas Pules wrote:Players to look out for?

Latest has him about 10.5 stone. I think that was a very wet daypadprop wrote:Harry Randall = 5'3" and 8 stone according to Gloucester academy webpage. Takes a serious pair of melons to play this level of rugby at that size.Epaminondas Pules wrote:Players to look out for?

Certainly is. Lightening quick, but has a good head for when to go and when to pass. Good whippy pass too.Mikey Brown wrote:He's a scrum-half I hope/assume?
