European Challenge Cup: Harlequins v Montpellier
Well I was pretty nervous/excited about this game before, it just seems weird now. Strong teams and we need this as a club but it's really taken on a whole different complexion.
I have no idea what to expect.
Harlequins: Brown; Yarde, Lowe, Roberts, Visser; Evans, Care (capt); Marler, Gray, Jones, Horwill, Twomey, Robshaw, Wallace, Easter.
Replacements: Ward, Lambert, Sinckler, Luamanu, Clifford, Dickson, Botica, Chisholm.
Montpellier: Fall; Nagusa, Tuitavake, Steyn, O'Connor; Catrakilis, White; Nariashvili, B. Du Plessis, Jannie Du Plessis, Jacques Du Plessis, Willemse, Ouedraogo (capt), Qera, Spies.
Replacements: Ivaldi, Watremez, Kubriashvili, Timani, Galletier, Paillaugue, Ebersohn, Mogg.
Referee: John Lacey (Ireland)

I've heard a lot of people say Jake White took a team that had an iffy patch under Galthie but played some decent stuff with some French players and turned them into a dull version of Saffacens, but really there's only one Saffa on the bench, if you ignore the starting it looks fine.

3 French players in the 15, and one of them is called Marvin O'Connor...Digby wrote:I've heard a lot of people say Jake White took a team that had an iffy patch under Galthie but played some decent stuff with some French players and turned them into a dull version of Saffacens, but really there's only one Saffa on the bench, if you ignore the starting it looks fine.

He is in fairness French, even if the name Marvin does make one a little paranoidStom wrote:3 French players in the 15, and one of them is called Marvin O'Connor...Digby wrote:I've heard a lot of people say Jake White took a team that had an iffy patch under Galthie but played some decent stuff with some French players and turned them into a dull version of Saffacens, but really there's only one Saffa on the bench, if you ignore the starting it looks fine.

Well, there is a French footballer called Marvin Martin, but at least that sounds French. It's the O'Connor that gets me. As French as a Spedding or a Le Roux, I guess :pDigby wrote:He is in fairness French, even if the name Marvin does make one a little paranoidStom wrote:3 French players in the 15, and one of them is called Marvin O'Connor...Digby wrote:I've heard a lot of people say Jake White took a team that had an iffy patch under Galthie but played some decent stuff with some French players and turned them into a dull version of Saffacens, but really there's only one Saffa on the bench, if you ignore the starting it looks fine.

Well he was born in and grew up in France. His parents aren't French though, thus the name (Aussies?)Stom wrote:Well, there is a French footballer called Marvin Martin, but at least that sounds French. It's the O'Connor that gets me. Is Brown playing himself off the tour to Oz?

Very reminiscent of the Montpellier Sale game. Quinns just getting beaten physically around the ruck and the fringes and aren't good enough to get it away and play wider.

Decision making from Quins has been awful. Too many one out runners with no support and some shocking decisions whether to go left or right. They've played into Montpelliers defensive game plan.

Brown is a complete fuckwit! But Yarde manages to make something of it through sheer commitment!

Same mistakes they've been making for a couple of seasons.Epaminondas Pules wrote:Decision making from Quins has been awful. Too many one out runners with no support and some shocking decisions whether to go left or right. They've played into Montpelliers defensive game plan.
