WM online reporting that Cory Hill is the latest to leave the Wales training squad.
Reportedly, the only contract he could get after leaving Japan stipulated his availability during the RWC.

FFS, we're really shooting ourselves in the foot with this cap rule, who thinks this can be a good idea with the lack of money in the game in Wales?

This one isn’t the cap rule, it’s all about money.
If Hill wanted a new contract then he needed to be available during international windows. Since none of the regions could apparently afford him, he has this turned his back on Wales.
I hope this gives opportunities to youngsters that we will reap the benefit from in years to come; that’s the only bright light I can see on the horizon

Agreed, this is nothing to do with the cap rule since Hill has over 25.
This is Hill quitting Wales for money for the second time, nothing more.
Can we coax AWJ out of retirement?

If this trend continues , we could lose a few more who are out of contract that are in the squad. Gats won't have to worry about reducing the squad size, its doing it by natural reduction.

Maybe not AWJ but the Fail and The Rugby Paper reporting Gatland's considering a call to Jake Ball.

With the caveat that I’ve not seen Ball play in a few years and don’t know what his form is right now, I’d happily have him in my team. He brings a lot of grunt and could be very handy as a starter or as a replacement.

Think Rhys Davies is the closest that Wales have in the squad to a Jake Ball type player. I hope that some of the young forwards will thrive with the training squad, it’s a great opportunity for them. Not sure if Wales will take 4 second rows or 3 plus a hybrid second row / 6 to the World Cup. If it’s 4 I’d like to see Davies and Dafydd Jenkins alongside Beard and Rowlands. I thought that Hill was likely to go as the hybrid player, shame for him that he couldn’t get a club side.

It is a shame about Hill, but that hybrid role leaves the door open for Christ and I’m comfortable with that.
