TBF, given the political situation in France at the moment, and the French national psyche - there was always going to be something, though I was expecting more protest, rioting, shitting in rivers... people waving placards about, than the arson.

I've watched 2 fly on the wall docs on the prep for opening ceremony

If they pull it off it will be amazing, looks like it's going to rain though

Breaking up the athletes' parade was a good idea, as that's where atmosphere goes to die, but it's made the ceremony itself very disjointed (and far more expensive).

I'm not sure the upside was worth the downside, but the weather and occasional technical difficulty will have played their parts in that.

Feels like you'd miss too much if there, but imagine the atmosphere with 4x as many people as a stadium could hold

I think they about saved it at the end

I liked that it brings the whole city in - much more integrated, rather than off to the side like an Olympic Village.
I like the inclusion of disabled athletes and dancers
(I like the inclusion of trans and drag performances, and REALLY want to see the likes of Faux News exploding in apoplexy)
I like the inclusion of intentional athletes and performers.
I love the finale

Absolutely crackers opening. Very French I guess? Bit meh overall, disjointed and too long but entertaining in places, shame about the rain, love the idea of the balloon holding the flame.

Best thing in the opening three hours was the Twitter commentary inc ‘Stop The Boats’ meme. Last 10 minutes was good.
