Wait - the 7s is starting before the olympics?

ETA: Yup - https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/schedule/24-july
Not just starting, but all the men's pool stages will be played before the Olympics actually start. For a sport that requires 3 days from start to completion, having 2 of those days before the games even start seems... a tad premature.

Presumably the French feel they've a good shot at getting a medal (the DuPont effect), and want the medal ceremony on day 1

It's on! Loving this, not least because my summer holidays were getting a bit boring.

Just saw a guy in a kilt.... but also wearing a France top, clearly knows where his croissant is buttered.
It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Can't say I follow the 7s circuit that closely but my impression is this 7s comp is actually wide open?

Dunno.
With it not being on TV, and the British teams withdrawing funding, I'm a good 5-6 years out of date

What 7s I watch is generally on YouTube a couple of months late, but I think, whereas it's usually either NZ or Fiji, this year it's those plus Ire, SA, France, with Aus and a couple of others also in with a decent shout.

They looked the better team, but not hugely.
Both teams looked far more fond of contact than I'm used to from 7s
As has everyone until this current match

Thought Yanks were good value for their result and not to be underestimated. I think everyone's still scrapping for who gets to lose to Fiji in the final though.

The one that wasn't given (stroke of HT) was a worse offence than the one that was.

How did NZ look?
Fiji look imperious, but flirting with hubris

Fiji were genuinely awesome against USA, although USA weren't at their best. Pick of the teams so far.

Fiji, NZ, Arg and Ireland seem to be a cut above the rest on day 1.

Didn't see anything from Aus in the first match to worry the others, missed this 2nd.
Haven't seen Argentina yet, but hear the crowd are really unhappy with them - anyone know why?

There was a strong tackle from Argentina in game 1 that the French crowd took umbrage with. Total over reaction. Crowd looking for a villian after that

Felt like the crowd were against Arg even before that, I wonder if what happened to the French XV players in Argentina over the summer has anything to do with it? Or a reaction to the Arg football team being exposed as massive racists? The football crowd were vehemently against the Arg footballers in that game that got abandoned too.

I can't imagine it's the arrest of the 2 alleged rapists. Isn't arg v France always a bit spicy as most of their players play in France and its become a grudge fixture?

Samoa aren't very good in attack, got waved through by the ref (scanlan on wrong side, when Kenya about to score)
