Always a big fan of a non English coach dropping in some journeyman from the home land at the detriment to English talent. I know they have injuries but Holloway on bench ahead of Chessum is just utterly depressing.

Is that Ollie Chessum who's injured or Lewis Chessum who's just coming back from a year out injured?

I would like to see more of Lewis Chessum but I'm not disappointed that he's being eased back in after such a nasty injury.

I suspect if LChessum was fit, then he'd be ahead of Manz for the starting role.

He's played some PRC. He's lost a lot of development time at a crucial age. I think it'll probably take a while for him to catch back up. A loan to Nottingham wouldn't be a bad idea. Tom Manz has been a regular in the Championship for a while plus he and Martin were a regular combination coming through the academy. Manz was hotly tipped in the academy and lost his own development time to a series of injuries. Would be nice to see him kick back on but I think you're right and Chessum Jnr will surpass him in the pecking order shortly if he can kick on.

They don't think Joe Woodward is ready yet or is he injured?

Kelly injured again or still not regained any sort of form? Would a move be good for him? I really hope an English team get him before an Irish one.

Joe Woodward is injured. Went off in the last PRC game.

Kelly I'm not sure about. His form was better so far this season. He could have picked up a knock or Chieka might be going for the power combo to counter Sale's physicality. Wand covers 13 and wing so with Shillcock covering 10 and 15 that's most of the backline from the bench. I'd have had Kelly over Kata personally as I think Kata is a bit of a liability and would prefer to use him as an impact sub.

Good to see Rodd and Quirke back for Sale. Both should be pushing for England recognition if they can some games behind them.

Rodd and AOF having a miserable time at the scrum so far. Three or four pens conceded in the first 20 mins. Tigers try and Sale on a warning already. Hopefully that continues.

Sale score via a forward pass that Foley inexplicably can't be bothered to review.

Wow Watson's pace really is gone. OHC makes a break and Steward is closer to getting to him than Watson.

Sale finish the half on top at the scrum and on the scoreboard with some clinical play in the red zone.

Still waiting for Tigers to emerge for the second half. Sale rampant.

Holloway intercept leads to Steward going through Carpenter and over in the corner. Small bright spark for Tigers against the run of play.

Sale 29 - 18 Tigers

Took a while to get going. Sale very good in 3rd quarter. LCD MotM and its hard to argue against that.

Yeah he was quality. Big shift from him, turned up all over didn't he. Very much back to his best.

Sale just blew Tigers away after half time in that third quarter as you say. Upped the intensity, allowed the narrow Tigers midfield to come up and then just exploited the space, Ford was understatedly outstanding.

Sale dominated the breakdown as well, they adapted to Leal after the opening flurry of penalties against them and just slowed Tigers down. Tigers only had Reffell who was marked out the game with the other 7 forwards getting nowhere near. Sale used the Curry brothers, Rodd and LCD to just constantly pull in Tigers players or slow things down.

Agreed - Sale were dirty cheating bastards at almost every breakdown, and I say that as a compliment. Made a mess of everything and we just had no answer at all.

Kata was the epitome of Kata today. Couple of massive early carries where you go, "Yeah, I can absolutely see why the coach wants to pick him ahead of more creative players - he's an absolute weapon," followed by the rest of the match making terrible decisions, both ball in hand and in defence. I think it's time to give up the dream that we can have the good Kata all the time or that his physicality is worth the massive downsides.

I've said before we lack subtlety at the breakdown. Unless Montoya is fit we offer no threat whatsoever as it's just too easy for any competent opposition to mark Reffell. The pack are too bosh and direct.

Agreed re Kata, I still think he'd be an excellent impact sub. On 60 mins send him on against Tired defenders and just let him do his thing. He fades badly in games and ended up defending as a forward whenever Sale got close to our line narrowing the defence which Ford used to create tries. As a defensive leader he isn't reliable either.

Having said all that if we defend rolling mauls as badly as we did yesterday most sides will take advantage.

He's a bloody big bloke. If you see him stood next to his brother you realise just how tall he is. He missed most of last season from that injury, needs game time now to make up for the that missed development and Championship is probably the right level currently.

Well I did actually stand next to him in person, so I have a clue :) Blocked out the light in the clubhouse; he towered over Ryan Olowofela who isn't tiny.

 that would do it. I was meaning more that even by lock standards he's tall.

How well did he play?
