Tandy…..

… is apparently our new head coach.

First of all, the very best of luck to him because it’s about as bad as it’s possible to get at the moment, although we have a decent chance of reversing the losing streak in Japan (assuming he is available for that and it’s not an interim).

This is a risk. His last run out as head coach wants t a huge success, and he’s done much better as a defence coach. There’s a lot for him to get used to in the head role and particularly with the background turmoil. I was hoping for someone with more experience as the main man, even if not internationally.

But let’s hope he can make a difference.

It’s been suggested that he’s not available for Japan and that Sherratt and Danny Wilson are being lined up as interim managers for the tour. Both are also tipped to join Tandy’s team.

Let’s hope this is the start of a revival of fortunes for Wales.

He might be good, even really good, but there is a slightly underwhelming feeling about it. It's a bit harder to believe he can bring some spark of magic to Wales than some up and coming Kiwi coach could. We know him a bit too well. But it's not a mad appointment. Good luck to him and may he build a great coaching team.

I'm semi-enthusiastic about Tandy. He'll steady the ship and get us playing a style that suits the players rather than getting the players playing to suit him. At least, that's what I hope he will do. I know he doesn't have a great head coach track record, but that was tempered by having no resources. Now he'll have the resources of an entire nation. Ummm. Unfortunately, that nation is Wales.

I suspect it will be some time before we are a serious rugby nation again. We need to rebuild so much and any head coach will just be trying to disguise the situation with glitter.

A style of play that doesn’t look out of place and which we can actually suit would be a start.
