Stadium for Bath is to launch the final round of consultation on its vision to deliver a new sport, leisure and community-focused destination in the heart of the city.The proposals include plans to breathe new life into the riverside realm between Pulteney Bridge and North Parade and to improve access to the city centre from that eastern bank of the River Avon, which sits adjacent to the Rec.

In addition, the community-focused East stand will drive active involvement in grassroots sport by addressing specific social needs via targeted education opportunities for young adults, and supporting charitable organisations operating in Bath.

Stadium for Bath held a consultation on the emerging concept designs in July. Over 1000 people attended this event in person, with a further 16,000 people engaging online via social media and the Stadium for Bath website. The project team has since collated all feedback received during this time and fed it directly back into the design process.

Following this, a preferred scheme from the emerging concepts has been developed.

In order to progress these plans to both regenerate the riverside and create new world-class facilities for everyone to enjoy at the Rec, Stadium for Bath is launching the final round of consultation.

The public exhibition will be held in the Brunswick Room at the Guildhall in the centre of the city, from 12:00pm to 6:00pm on Wednesday 5th, 11:00am – 7:00pm, Thursday 6th December and Friday 7th December and 10:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday 8th December.

At the event there will be the opportunity to speak with members of the project team, ask questions and give feedback on the developed concept design.

For those who are unable to attend the event, all of the information will also be available via www.stadiumforbath.com along with an online feedback form.

Chief Executive of Bath Rugby Tarquin McDonald said:

“For the past two years we have been engaging with our neighbours, local community groups, schools, businesses and the those that live and work here in this fantastic city. We have listened to their feedback and fed it all into the design process. We believe that we now have a developed design that is befitting to both our iconic location in the heart of the city and Bath’s World Heritage status.

“This is an incredibly important consultation for Stadium for Bath’s vision to create a new destination that everyone can use and enjoy. I urge you to either come and see the consultation in person or go online, we will get this right if we all work together.”

I don't know - 18,000 is a pretty good capacity - it'd give them the fourth largest club ground in the country (and Wasps and Bristol don't use all of theirs). Bath as a city only has 60,000 people in it - obviously they draw supporters from surrounding areas as well, but unless rugby experiences a massive surge of interest, I wouldn't expect a Premiership club to be embarrassed with an 18,000 stadium for a good long time.

However, it's better to have a less lucrative and more expensive new stadium than no new stadium at all. Bruce is footing the bill, so the build cost isn't a huge issue. And almost anything in the world would generate more income than the current eyesore.

I suspect a lot of those weren't actually really planned for anyway and were more so they could say they'd listened to the complaints from the consultation.
