Fortuitously i've come back from Sweden for bonfire night (sussex lad, ya see). Sadly am in the (east) midlands now so can't head home to lewes rfc but happily am with my parents and sister's family who all love rugby. Current plan is get up, put on colours (choice of png, finland or england all acceptable), have a cooked breakfast of champions before the whole family (ages from 0-69) heads to the pub. Halftime flapjacks have all been baked. Herself i fear may have to mind young master mwenda if he gets bored. If England win, i expect 20 minutes of cycling round the village ringing our little bells and waving flags. Whatever, we will probably go swimming. Roast dinner (lamb, that was perhaps a mistake) in the evening. Rest.

Someone has to look after our four kids (11, 9, 7 and 3 - I’ll remember their names one day). Fortunately that is Mrs Firstphase’s job - I’ll be down my local rugby club watching it on the big screen.
Happy viewing everyone, from a longtime forum lurker.

Bloody hell. That’s sounds like a quality day. Enjoy.

The wife & I are just watching it with my parents.
I’ve come to the conclusion that watching important games in public places is not for me.
I just can’t bring myself to watch us in a World Cup final surrounded by bandwagon ‘fans’ talking rubbish and pretending they know what they’re talking about.
If I watch at my club, a lot of the younger guys will be more interested in getting pissed than watching the game.

I think I'm right in saying no definitive plans were made. And I now have to chose whether to sober back up over the next 2-3 hours or open a bottle of win.

I'm a bottle down and can't get rid of the nerves! I almost certainly won't sleep well

That's where I am right now as well. Which means I need a plan B, if I'm nervous as hell, rugby club surrounded crowds is the last place I need to be

The Inishark Irish pub here in Venice opens its doors at 9.45, so I’ll hopefully have begun my breakfast glass of porter by kick off!

Off to the club for 7.30 (someone's got to start the sausages and get the boiler going!!) then once see celebrated a bit(!!) will be watching the seconds playing local derby! Then celebrate the 2 nd win of the day (!!) Or even drowning sorrows then get my wonderful, beautiful, marvellously funny wife to pick me up.

Actually spent a beautiful sunny afternoon quietly getting slightly pissed at my kids’ joint 5th/7th birthday. Down side: mother-in-Law is here. And will be staying. And will insist on making conversation during the game.

Been up for 2 hours.
Just finished researching Eng v NZ and fully pumped.
About to rewatch RSA v Wal - which out me back to sleep, or may see confidence riding far too high

Oh gods, you have my sympathies. I have a mother (not in-law) that insists on that sort of thing

Mrs G likes footy but hasn't the foggiest about wugby..
The 'just ignore me then..' & ' there's no need to be so rude...' can dangerously escalate if lost in proceedings.
Really not good for already elevated BP levels.
This is 1 good reason to watch out (no pun intended)
Pre-match agreements are worth the effort.

Not so bad when I’m basically neutral. I just hope that a team playing attractive, attacking footy wins, and not a team playing attritional, defensive bishbashbosh.

The problem is, I also want a team whose nation will be humble in victory to win.
Rock
Hard place

Oh, strike me down.
I thought MIL had shot off to bed when Mrs Liz decided to hit the hay, leaving me alone to watch the game in peace. But apparently she was just having a lie down and has come out to watch the match in her nightie, dressing gown and surgical socks.
Yippee.

It gets worse. I was off getting a beer and she’s only gone and sat in my traditional seat - the prime viewing position square on to the screen. I’ve had to passive-aggressively rotate the telly a few degrees towards to other end of the sofa.
