If I'm honest I'm not surprised by either. Disappointed with DCs though especially considering what happened to Jerry Collins.

JImbo O'Connor was there to be arrested with Ali. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the end of Williams' career. And if any Aussie Super Rugby teams were willing to take on O'Connor, I doubt that'll be happening any time soon.

James O'Connor has had an awfully strange career hasn't he.

Wasted career IMO. I wish I had the 1% of the talent he has.

Yep. Consistently poor attitude and non-existent self-management meant there probably aren't any unburned bridges for him in Australia now.

I try not to click on his "articles" as I don't want to give him readership. But did read this one, and yes, probably the best one he's written. Shows he can actually write. Wish he did that more often instead of spewing negative bile in an effort to be edgy.

It gets better. O'Connor was about to go into contract negotiations with Toulon, since his was due soon. What a fuck-up.

Racing to sack Ali:

Racing 92 president Jacky Lorenzetti says former All Blacks lock Ali Williams will be fired by the Top 14 club following his arrest for buying cocaine.

Lorenzetti told Midi Olympique magazine that "unfortunately, Ali Williams will soon be dismissed."

Williams and former Wallabies back James O'Connor were arrested last month outside a Paris nightclub. O'Connor was fined for cocaine use by the Paris prosecutor's office while Williams will face a hearing with the prosecutor for buying the equivalent of 2.4 grams of the drug.

Racing 92 had already suspended the 2011 World Cup winner as a precautionary measure and apologized to fans for the incident.

Lorenzetti added that Williams, who will appear before a French rugby disciplinary hearing this month, tested negative for cocaine after his arrest.

Can you believe this denialist BS? One of our darling Kiwi boys is arrested and suddenly hard drug users are not criminals anymore but victims! Now, if Ali Williams had grown up in a ghetto, there might be something to this, but the fact is he's an international sports star, a public figure and therefore a role model for children - with responsibilities attached:

At this point, Ali Williams and James O'Connor, two former test rugby stars, are guilty of nothing having been arrested on cocaine charges in Paris. And guilty of nothing they are, whatever the outcome.

Has there ever been a more futile, damaging legal line than the ridiculous war on drugs?

It has created so many victims, in so many ways. Prohibition, as it inevitably does, has created a disaster it can't solve.

Williams and O'Connor are just two more victims, their names being dragged through unflattering headlines. They will be condemned by sports bosses, men who care only for image and know nothing about what they talk about.

When drugs are an issue in people's lives, it is a health issue. It should not be a legal one. Prohibition is creating the problem, and not only because it has the potential to ruin job prospects, travel opportunities etc etc.

(as it may well do with Williams, the former All Black lock, and O'Connor, once a diminutive Wallaby back).

We need to stop demonising drugs and the people who use them by allowing politicians - remember the White House Reagans - to hurl vote-catching cliché's about. Many drug users cause no problems at all, nor suffer beyond the standard physical risks associated with other problems such as high sugar intake, tobacco/alcohol use and a sedentary lifestyle.

It's not wrong though. Treating drug addiction and dependence like a crime rather than an illness is fucking stupid.

No, but treating recreational use of hard drugs as a crime is spot on, especially when we're talking about wealthy sports stars who are role models for young children.

Why, because I think it's ridiculous to call an All Blacks star a 'victim' for trying to buy cocaine in Paris?

Not at all. You're just being condescending again. But it's you who's missing the point - as usual.

Racing have launched dismissal proceedings against Ali Williams, and he has also been fined $2300. I'd say that's the proper end to his career, and it'd be a pretty shitty note for him to close up an otherwise stellar career.

I've held myviews on the decriminalisation of drugs long before Ali Williams decided to have a night out with his good mate Charlie, you twit.

You are right unfortunately it's taken an All Black to do it to raise the issue in NZ but I still don't see how that's a bad thing.
